Prior to joining the Fire Service, I was a Cabinet Maker, creating bespoke items of furniture, mixing in skills from traditional and modern finishing, upholstery and light metalwork. I joined Surrey Fire and Rescue Service in January 1995 and then served operationally at Leatherhead and Guildford.In 2005, I decided to broaden my knowledge and transferred to our Fire Safety team, starting with the basics and I worked up to being an Engineering Technician (EngTech), where I dealt with the most complex premises in the County. This is both from the Building Regulations consultation stage, all the way through to inspecting them once fully occupied. I oversaw the Fire Safety for the Service for a major development in Woking consisting of 3 high rise towers, multi-storey integral car parks, mixed commercial, and all linked to two existing shopping centres.I retired from the Service in June 2022 after 27 years, and now looking for an exciting and challenging role in the Fire Safety sector.
