My passion is seeing people enjoy using the things I’ve helped design and create. I have 5+ years of experience at IDEO creating new products and services. My PhD in Complex Systems gave me formal training in data science and computational research methodology. I’ve scoped projects, lead cross-functional teams, and mentored colleagues.

Senior Lead - Data ScientistIdeo Oct 2017 - Aug 2024San Francisco, California, UsTech lead. managing technical teams focused on ML, AI, LLMs, or complex data systems.Contributed to 25+ projects at each stage of a product's lifecycle and helped bring 5+ data-powered products to production. 0 to 1. Expert in using mixed-methods research and rapid prototyping to define and pilot new products.Leading IDEO's Data Scientist craft cohort. upskilling, knowledge sharing, and community building.Evangelizing Data. Integrated data science into traditional design projects and processes increasing the value proposition for clients + IDEO.Sample Project:Creating an LLM-powered troubleshooting expert. Powered by prompt engineering, RAG, Vector databases, and proprietary ontology. Significantly outperforms GPT4. -
Data ScientistDatascope Analytics Jan 2017 - Oct 2017Core-contributor on Data Science teams solving technical challenges for diverse business contexts under tight constraints.Sample projects:Built a "recipe creation" tool for a client in manufacturing that combined deep learning, stochastic optimization, color theory, and scientific theory. Exceeded expectations with clients resulting in extended client relationships and increased revenue.Built knowledge management systems for clients using programming data ingestion pipelines, NLP, semantic search, elasticsearch, and an extensive concept ontology. The client is still using the tool 7 years later.

Postdoctoral Research FellowNorthwestern University Jan 2016 - Jan 2017Evanston, Il, UsI managed a research team by setting short weekly and monthly goals, maintaining constant updates between all members, and keeping members on track and motivated.Expanded analysis of movement and posture to incorporate machine learning, predictive models (random forest, SVM, etc.), feature engineering, dimensionality reduction (PCA), and fractal analysis.Worked with a programmer to create a networked data processing pipeline with a GUI for non-technical biologists to run experiments.Mentored junior graduate students, Worked as an instructor for Python and Data Science Boot-camp -
Phd CandidateNorthwestern University Sep 2008 - Dec 2015Evanston, Il, UsMy Thesis: Quantifying Complex Behavioral Phenotypes in C. elegans focused on building and running a multi-camera system to detect and quantify movement and posture patterns of large numbers of model organisms to better understand aging and neurodegenerative disease using techniques in multivariate time-series classification and clusteringExperimental and research program design: Set research direction and convinced two advisors of its potential. Won three grants to fund my work including an NRSA from the NIH. Recruited a team of biologists, and computational researchers, to participate and contribute to our work.Programming and Data Engineering: Created data analysis pipelines, data organization schemas, HDF5, MapReduce, High-throughput Compute ClustersPublic Speaking: 100+ presentations including NU events, Conferences, and lab meetings. Co-founded "the Colloquium series" an event series for graduate students to practice and refine their public speaking skills. The series is still going 8 years later. -
Research AssistantMit Hatsopoulos Microfluids Laboratory Jun 2007 - Aug 2007- Programming: created a graphical user interface for MITlaos 2.1, a data analysis program designed to use Large Amplitude Oscillatory Shear (LAOS) to extract the non-linear viscoelastic properties of complex fluids. Distributed to several large companies, including Proctor and Gamble.- Experiments: performing rheological tests on complex fluids.
