The Stadium Village Special Service District was established in 1997 to better maintain the Stadium Village commercial area along Washington Avenue SE between Harvard Street SE and University Avenue SE and portions of adjacent side streets. In a Special Service District, property owners in a commercial district collectively self-impose service charges to fund enhanced services and amenities that are over and above what the City ordinarily provides. Enhanced services typically include cleaning, greening, snow removal and better maintenance of public spaces. Special amenities can include distinctive streetscape fixtures and street furniture. City of Minneapolis staff engage with the district's advisory board to identify desired services and develop an annual budget and then implement the services in accordance with the annual budget.
