I have spent the past 35 years working for liquid bulk storage companies in SA mainly in stock control and Customs clearing and forwarding. I received training in industrial relations, labour law, customer service excellence, management practice, Customs Affairs and Forwarding Practice. I also gained experience working at the Durban Container Terminal prior to this in rail, ship and stack planning and the training of straddle carrier drivers. I also trained as an ISO9000 auditor and am familiar with safety practices.With my current company I have broadened this experience by setting up a clearing department from scratch with the resultant registering of surety bonds and initiating freight systems. I also ran a small fleet of chemical road tankers delivering product largely in KZN and consequently am familiar with SABS codes of practice with regards the storage and conveyance of dangerous goods. I also formed a Liquid Bulk Forum to engage Customs as the needs and uniqueness of liquid bulk receipt, storage and handling isn't covered in Current legislation. I have broad all-round experience in the operational and administrative and general logistical aspects of liquid bulk storage as well as adequate skills in the Customs clearance of imported and exported cargo, administrating Customs and Excise Bonded Warehouses and rebate stores and am familiar with the legislation governing these activities. I communicate effectively both orally and in writing and try to stay as up to date as possible within this dynamic and changing environment. I enjoy a good challenge and am currently developing a new stock inventory system that caters for the unique needs of the company that I work for. Because I work for a very small company I stay in touch by being a member of SAAFF (the SA Association of Freight Forwarders) and attend a number of relevant stakeholder meetings with SARS, the Port and the local Chamber of Commerce
