- Designed and developed key extensions to Spur (Simulation for Planning and Understanding Railways), an open-source, modular, and data-driven railway network simulation software package (based on Python, SimPy, NetworkX) using the novel mesoscopic approach, as part of the undergraduate research thesis project- Performed an extensive literature review in railway simulation approaches, railway traffic modelling, and stochastic dwell time modelling to inform the software design- Designed and implemented the algorithms and highly modular and object-oriented structure of new Spur components and improved the software architecture- Constructed, calibrated, and validated the performance of a complete Spur model of the GO Transit rail network in the Greater Toronto Area in a data-driven approach using track diagrams, schedules, and historic vehicle position data; developed systematic data processing algorithms to automate the model construction using Python and pandas- Comprehensively documented the research project background, detailed methodology, and findings in the final thesis document (nominated for the Engineering Science Centennial Thesis Award)- Produced visually elegant video animations of simulation outputs under various operational scenarios via the development of data processing algorithms and scripts, representing train movements across the GO network- Created and delivered presentations about the project at various Transit Analytics Lab events to a combined audience of 200+ academic and industry professionals

- Spearheaded the design and development of a comprehensive Python software suite for battery electric bus fleet operations planning: energy modelling, charging and yard operations simulation, and data visualization- Researched academic literature in eBus energy consumption models, designed and implemented a medium-scale object-oriented software architecture, performed testing, debugging, and performance optimization via multithreading and vectorization, coordinated and facilitated the project expansion with a small development team, demonstrated flexibility and creative problem-solving during rapid development cycles to meet client needs- Actively participated in multiple transit technology systems engineering projects throughout the lifecycle, including: designing system architectures, developing system specifications and requirements, evaluating proposals, conducting modelling and simulation, providing strategic recommendations, delivering internal and client-facing presentations, and writing technical reports- Worked with a diverse range of transit technologies (zero-emission / battery electric buses, Computer-Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location, fare collection, real-time passenger information, communication systems) and transit agencies across North America

- Designed and built a Python software module that dynamically computed route-by-route public transit operating cost estimates in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) based on the network service configuration- Researched various transit cost models in the literature and performed extensive data-driven analysis, prototyping, testing, and validation with transit network models, GTFS feeds, and agency data to inform the algorithm design- Integrated the module within the Travel Modelling Group’s travel demand microsimulation model (GTAModel) using the INRO EMME Modeller API and contributed to their open-source travel modelling tools (TMGToolbox)- Produced detailed reports and documentation and presented results to planners from GTHA municipalities

- Created efficient traffic data analysis and visualization scripts using Excel, VBA, and Power BI for processing large databases of collisions, traffic volumes, and turning movement counts on provincial highways- Conducted highway traffic studies and site inspections; performed intersection performance analysis with Synchro- Coordinated lane closures on provincial highways through contract review and conflict identification / resolution
