I started as an Android developer working on the main Android Trade Me app, but I was also working on the mobile Touch website.As time went on I expressed an interest in learning iOS, and the opportunity came so I took it. I became an iOS developer, working primarily on the iPad app that Trade Me offers, but also adding new features to the iOS Property app.For the last six months, my role has changed to become the Technical Lead of one of the mobile Agile squads, named Core Wellington. I am currently overseeing two projects, an Android Property App due to be released next month, and a Windows Phone app, due for release in June.I also have four developers reporting directly to me; three iOS developers and one Windows Phone developer. We are trying to hire another Android/iOS developer for my team, another Windows Phone developer, as well as a designer.Other pieces of work that I do at Trade Me include tech demo presentations, code reviews, mentoring, maintaining the iOS and Android API wrapper code, configuring Jenkins for continuous integration, research and development, for example, I am currently looking at adding Augmented Reality into the Android Property app.

Idiom originally employed me on a three month contract as a C#.Net developer in May 2008, butthey kept me on contract for about two years. Idiom is a software development company that makes software based on their successful ‘decisions first’ model of designing software.I designed and implemented the original Idiom Document Generator application based on the requirements of the Auckland City Council. This windows application and web service allows you to take multiple .docx files and merge them into one, depending on the feedback that the user has entered into an online document, for example, a building consent.Other work includes design and implement a plugin for the main Decision Manager application that calculates code generation statistics, mentor other developers on software design, maintain the current codebase and fix bugs.

AdvanceRetail is a leading developer of Point of Sale and Retail Management software solutions. I was employed as a contractor and they kept me on for two years.They used a combination of VB6 and C#.Net.The highlight for me was creating AR QueueBuster, an app for the Windows Mobile 5 and Windows CE 5 platforms that allowed the AdvanceRetail POS product to go mobile.Another highlight was creating Farmers Beauty Club system, a rewards system that gave you points on your account that you can use to buy extra beauty products from Farmers.

SmartTrade is a job management system that is designed to run on mobile devices, laptops, notebooks and desktop computers. I was employed as a VB.Net developer.The project I am most proud of here is creating a plugin system for their main product, a Windows application. The plugin system allows the user to hook into the UI elements and extend the main app by simply adding a .dll file to a folder. This opened the door to more granular customisation of the app.Other work includes mentoring on software design guidelines and object oriented principles, maintain current codebase, fix bugs and code reviews.

Hokianga Health is an integrated health service provider for the Hokianga region. I was employed asa database developer, mainly helping the hospital produce reports for the district health boards as well as the trust itself.I created three Windows applications using VB6. The risk management system was created to capture all the incident/accident data from staff. The vehicle management system was created to help management keep track of who had which company car. The reporting system was a flexible tool that I used to retrieve data from the database and create reports based on that information.

Market Pulse is a mystery shopping company. This was my first programming job out of university. I was employed as a VB6 developer.The work I am most proud of at Market Pulse is the upgrade to the reporting system that I made. I created a new reporting system using OO design patterns that allowed the company to produce beautiful reports that were impossible to make in the old system.Other responsibilities were maintaining the current codebase and fixing bugs.
