The emergency department (ED) of the AMC is visited by about 32,000 patients who need acute medical care, have an accident or become acutely ill. The department is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. In the Amsterdam UMC, the ED will become a leading Level 1 tertiary referral center for acute care in the North-West Netherlands, Flevoland and Gooi and Vecht. The care processes for Low, Medium and High Care will be more organized independently of each other. The objective is to increase quality and shorten the waiting time and average turnaround time for all patients. Also, the ED is equipped with large diagnostic facilities on site: the High Care area will consist of two shock rooms (non-injury), two trauma rooms with X-ray and CT scan facility, a high-end CT (force) and to eventually expected a MRI for acute studies.

Care of sports- and other trauma related injuries. Specialty in arthroscopic procedures (ACL single and double bundle), fracture care and injuries to the vertebral column. Head of emergency department.

Daily care of severly injured traumapatients. Training fellows and residents in traumasurgical skills and developing new operation techniques through research.

Resposible for the organisation and development of the traumacentre with three main targets; the helicopter mobile medical team, dataregistration in the Landelijk TraumaRegistratie (Dutch Trauma database) and the traumanetwork South West Netherlands
