Daily rituals included everything from market research, product strategy, product launch, application management, customer development, QA, & sales. During this period, I also assisted in the onboarding process for clients such as H&R Block, Office Depot, and the advertising agency DIGITAS. As the business grew and the application matured, I moved into the Search Marketing Manager role, launching & overseeing a portfolio of search marketing accounts for small to mid sized businesses utilizing the SearchIgnite software system. From launch to maturity, this portfolio helped contribute approximately $225k in additional yearly profit to the core SearchIgnite business.

    I was originally hired at ChoicePoint to manage the implementation and delivery of advertising accounts on partners like Switchboard.com, WhitePages.com, and AnyWho.com. At the time, our two business units - KnowX.com and ChoiceTrust.com - were failing to properly leverage Paid Search as a marketing vehicle, so I proactively wrote a business case to encourage the allocation of more advertising dollars into this arena. After I received approval, I single handedly designed, researched, and implemented all keyword accounts, actively managed them on a daily basis, and performed daily tracking analysis to determine a positive ROI across all partners (which were Google Adwords, Overture, and Findwhat, Kanoodle, Enhance, and Search123 at the time).     My first job on the web, and it proved to be a watershed business experience for me. eTour was essentially a search engine which presented results in a slide-show manner (similar to todays StumbleUpon). I was initially hired as an Advertising Traffic Coordinator to oversee all aspects of our internal advertising campaign operations. As I grew comfortable with my position, I ended up assuming all Product Manager responsibilities for our department, and developed an in-house application to dynamically insert new advertisers into our ad rotation without having to hand code SQL. From this position, I was promoted into the role of Advertising Product Manager, responsible for authoring all ad product launch plans and functional specifications. eTour soon ran out of funding, though. I was fortunate to make it through 2 rounds of layoffs, but couldn't I avoid the third. eTour wound up shutting down operations soon after, and sold their remaining assets to Ask Jeeves.
