I studied at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas graduating third in my class. Following an internship and residency in general surgery at UT Southwestern, I completed a National Cancer Institute fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as well as, a surgical oncology fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California.I am an ASBS certified breast ultrasonographer and is an American College of Surgeons breast ultrasound faculty instructor. I trained with the father of sentinel lymph node biopsy in Los Angeles, Dr. Armando Giuliano and brought the technique to Dallas. I have given numerous national and local presentations and am actively involved in research. I have published major articles in peer-reviewed medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, The Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, and the American Journal of Surgery.I am board certified in general surgery. I have been a fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology and served on the Executive Board of that Society 2007-10. I am also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons where I am active in breast cancer research placing hundreds of women into cutting edge studies and teaching in numerous courses on breast cancer for the College. I was the President of the American Society of Breast Surgeons 2013-14 and served on the ASBS Board of Directors from 2006-09 and 2012-14. I am the the Co-Principle Investigator of the ASBS Mammosite Registry.Co-Founder of Targeted Medical Education and the Breast Care Network along with Mark Gittleman, Pat Whitworth and Rakesh Patel. We host an invitation only Annual Summit each Fall in Las Vegas. Our research division has 15 IRB approved registries with 4 that are still active and have put >4000 patients on studies. The data has generated 24 abstracts, 6 oral presentations and 7 papers. Our research group has grown to >60 community and academic sites with ~100 investigators. TME Advisory is our latest venture and takes a deep dive into companies from start ups to long established multi-billion dollar market cap leaders in their field.In July 2021 joined InVitae as a part time employee with the acquisition of Medneon by InVitae.
