Built up the Language Technology and Applications team with talented researchers of multi-disciplinary backgrounds. Directed the development and internal launch of several language technology applications, e.g., the multilingual Nokia Corporate Dialer with 23,000 names and advanced personalization feature, the bilingual Program Guide Information System for telephony and for media set-top box. Our main delivery was the multilingual speech interface to Nokia One, Nokia’s first mobile email solution product back in early 2000s. Designed and built proprietary Dialogue Manager based on the primitive dialogue concept, used in Nokia One and a mobile inventory solution. Initially represented Nokia in the W3C multimodal group.Prior forming the team, Implemented the first continuous speech recognition engine for Finnish. Designed and developed Natural Language Understanding and Dialogue Management technologies. Implemented spoken dialogue prototypes on IVR platforms using Nokia’s speech engines. Conducted user experience, usability studies, led development of experimental prototypes (bus timetable inquiry, prepaid card manager, voice assistant, voice memo, etc.).
