The National Autistic Society exists to champion the rights and interests of all people with autism and aim to provide individuals with autism and their families with help, support and services that they can access, trust and rely upon and which can make a positive difference to their lives. As well as the general charitable activities the NAS also operates schools, adult homes and a hospital. As International Operations Director of Grass Roots Group I was responsible for leading the expansion into new key markets and directly managed several of the Grass Roots Group subsidiary companies in Europe, MENA and Asia as well as being Chairman of Grass Roots Performance Services India Pvt. Ltd.During my time with Grass Roots I was able to turnaround the fortunes of three loss making businesses and launched the business in India.

Forno Vivo opened in June 2001 after the conversion of Tring GPO to form an authentic Italian restaurant with a wood burning oven and utilising the stringent Neapolitan production methods for the production of our pizzas. The business was a runaway success from day one and was recognised in the Italian Food awards as best Pizza Restaurant in the UK, as best new business in the Dacorum Business Awards (at which I was also named Entrepreneur of the Year) and was recognised by the Italian authorities as a member of the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana.The business was sold at a substantial premium to a large Plc.

Director of High Street Bars division of Whitbread. The business achieved the highest sales and profit growth in the Plc in 2000.

Taylor Walker was the London operating company of Allied Domecq Retail. A hugely successful business Taylor Walker operated over 700 public houses, restaurants and bowling alleys and produced bottom line profits of circa £45million.Taylor Walker was closed down in 1995 when Allied restructed the business to a centralised, brand led model - a disastrous move that resulted in them exiting retail a few years later.
