About Peter Borthwick
I am an honours level psychology graduate (and am currently studying my Masters of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) with strong communication and client engagement skills. I have eight years of case management experience in several roles that have required the use of problem solving, logical thought processes, a methodological approach to tasks and situations, and numerous communication styles for different stakeholder groups (including people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds). I also have experience as a manager and in leading teams. In addition, I have experience in counselling, advocacy, preparing affidavits and other written material, and have very good computer literacy and experience with mobile communications products. I am also very passionate about children's development and their progression through childhood to adulthood, and have good experience engaging with children, young people and adolescents. Youth Worker
Working as Youth Worker with Life Without Barriers, I am working with children and young people in the out-of-home care system. The role itself is incredibly multi-faceted, and sees me providing support to young people in several modalities, including direct support for their health (both physical and mental), their education, accommodation, providing mentoring support, and supporting them to define and meet their life goals. I also liaise individuals from multi-disciplinary teams, and provide assistance and guidance to them with regards to the young people that I support and work with.
Case Manager
Working as Case Manager with Life Without Barriers, I have worked with children and young people in out-of-home care and their carers. This has involved building a relationship with and supporting my clients, and largely working as an advocate for them with Child Safety and Disability Services, to ensure their developmental needs, and needs for care and protection, could be more adequately met. This role has also included various training opportunities (including in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Signs of Safety, attending the International Child Trauma Conference in Melbourne in 2016, and Dyadic Development Psychotherapy Level One training in 2016). As a housing officer, I provided assistance to Asylum Seekers in rental accommodation. The role largely consisted of client advocacy and supporting clients to learn more about the Queensland rental market, including legislation, tenancy agreements, and other aspects of living in the Brisbane community. I also completed project work including being a quality assurer in a large-scale client transfer project, and was involved in an archiving project.

In this role, I case managed children, young people and families. I also liaised with numerous community partners, in foster care, health and government. My role also involved achieving case planning KPIs and preparing affidavits.

In my locum role as a case worker at Red Cross, I worked in a team providing time-limited (i.e. 6 week) case management to Asylum Seekers to access the Brisbane community, including accommodation, health, schooling (for children), and orientation to their communities. The role was very fast-paced due to the time constraints, and I was part of a supportive network of individuals who assisted one another.
