Professionally, I am a recently (July 2023) retired staff/senior consultant working for UN agencies and nonprofit organisations with 40 years of experience in "The Unthinkable, The Impossible, and The Good". In my job, I craved to innovate, renovate or start up any type of project which everyone else considered as utterly impossible. Be it in IT, communications, staff security/safety, logistics, first-response,....But, on the other side of the spectrum, I am also a radio amateur, passionate sailor, power boat instructor and skipper with over 50,000+ nautical miles under my keel - including four transatlantic passages as crew/first mate, two semi-Pacific and two Antarctic trips as passenger. I participated in/co-organized/co-lead four scientific/radio expeditions to the world's most remote islands in the Pacific and Antarctic.. The "sailing" side of me, my “hobby”, has now turned into an almost full-time passion as a skipper and sailing instructor. (See "Experience" and "Projects" section for my sailing resume)

Freelance Sailing Skipper And InstructorFreelance Jul 2023 - Present(For my full sailing CV: see "Projects" section)I started sailing dinghies in 2003 - following the RYA sailing programme: Lasers, Hobiecats, 15 ft training skiffs, day sailing skiffs, J22... As of 2004, I got my RYA certificates as Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper theory/practical (tidal) and MCA endorsed Yachtmaster Offshore, VHF radio, sea survival, first-aid at sea, RYA Powerboat Level I/II/advanced, and ended up as a certified RYA Powerboat instructor. In the 1990ies, I went as passenger/crew on two Antarctic and two Pacific open ocean crossings. As of 2004, I skippered 35-49ft yachts for summer cruising (with family or friends) in the Caribbean (4 seasons), Indian Ocean (one season), Northsea/Atlantic (4 seasons), and the Med (Italy-Greece-France, 7 seasons).I did 12 open ocean passages, including 4 transatlantics, 2 Antarctic and 2 Pacific crossings and 4 N/S Atlantic passages. (see "Projects" section for more details).I also did multiple regattas in Bretagne, Med and Caribbean, including races as crew on a Volvo Ocean (VO65) and MOD70 trimaran. As an ICT/telecoms professional, and a licensed ham operator, I worked on telecoms/IT systems on yachts, and co-organized/led 4 radio expeditions to some of the world's most remote islands in the Pacific and Antarctica. For the past 20 years I have been teaching/mentoring people to sail dinghies and yachts, training them as competent crew, watch leader or skipper. I have recently retired from a senior position in the UN, and am now available as crew, watch leader or skipper/instructor/mentor for anyone who wants an extra hand.I have 50,000 Nm under my keel, and at the age of 64, combine my physical fitness, mental abilities and experience to help others to learn how to sail, manage a yacht & crew, to skipper, or just.. to help making ocean passages enjoyable.
