As a Systems Engineer at Leonardo UK, I am working as part of the Captor-M Radar team, delivering both weapon system upgrades and optimisation of pilot/radar interactions to the Eurofighter Typhoon project. This scope of work takes place over the full systems engineering lifecycle of the product: from requirements definition through System Design and Integration and testing. Currently, I am working to develop MATLAB App’s and Toolsets to be used in the automation of radar data analysis for the assistance of design and implementation.

As a graduate at BAE Systems, I worked as part of the Control and Instrumentation team within the Shore-Integration facility, developing SIM/STIM capabilities for the various control systems on-board the Dreadnought platform, in order to support the validation and verification process of the platform, through simulated computer testing. The graduate scheme also offered me the opportunity to develop myself with interpersonal and leadership skills, through the many stretch assignments I have engaged with, such as the STEM Ambassadors, Systems engineering insights and Buddy programs.

This time I have been developing skills in antenna design and beam modelling, taking up a project in which I will evaluate the usability and functionality of the Mathswork antenna toolboxes within the company.

In the final year of my studies at Heriot-Watt University, I completed a research project in the field of Biophysics, under the supervision of Dr Lynn Paterson. This project had me developing and researching the Theory, Design, Build, Calibration, and operation of optical tweezers, while observing the effects of IR expose on T and J774 Cells.

During the summer I had the opportunity to work at Leonardo as a systems engineer working on the systems design team of the Radar 2 (ECRS MkII) project. My time at Leonardo had me developing skills in model based systems engineering, specifically in the use of cameo systems modeller, ICD auto generation and radar design. I was also encouraged to develop skills in career focused time management, team planning and working, public speaking and presentations and meetings based procedures.
