Dynamic, self-motivated professional who consistently delivers measurable results in clinical care, clinical outcome research, and cutting-edge advancement of evidence-based therapies. I hold dissemination, networking, and collaboration as key to advancing science and clinical practice. I believe that a positive and patient approach to collaboration fosters an environment where diverse perspectives can thrive, leading to innovative solutions in healthcare. I have my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago, am an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UC San Diego, and a Research Clinical Psychologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. I am deeply committed to advancing mental health care for veterans and first-responders. My research and clinical work primarily focus on optimizing treatments for PTSD, insomnia, obstructive sleep apnea, and substance use disorders among high risk individuals. I have dedicated my career to understanding and improving the mechanisms of treatment efficacy and addressing co-occurring disorders.Currently, I lead innovative research projects, including randomized controlled trials aimed at integrating cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia with prolonged exposure therapy for veterans with PTSD. My work has been published in numerous journals, highlighting the significant interplay between sleep disorders and PTSD, and the critical need for integrated treatment approaches.I am actively involved in professional service as the chair of the ISTSS Sleep and Trauma Special Interest Group. I also serve on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in clinical psychology and psychiatry. In addition to my psychology service, I have also founded SocketSitter.com where our mission is to simply enhance child safety one household at a time. I tried to solve the problem of the solo outlet plugs being left out, and forgotten, leaving electrical outlets. So often, dangerous outlets are exposed and choking hazards are left around the house! SocketSitter is ALWAYS connected to the wall plate, thus never forgotten and never a choking hazard! We designed a simple, practical and premium product that is focused on increasing child safety, while keeping parents’ sanity intact, without disrupting the clean lines of modern decor.
