Investigating genes associated with CAD in large scale genome-wide association studies to determine how these genes contribute to disease. This has resulted in identifying pathways not previously known to be involved in cardiovascular disease and has identified potential novel therapeutic drug targets.Identifying the genes responsible for causing biscuspid aortic valve in families and sporadic patients. Using CRISPR-Cas9 in human cancer and iPS cell lines to knock-out genes of interest to investigate their function. Carrying out experiments in human cardiovascular cell types including endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells to investigate the roles of these genes in controlling key phenotypes. Working on a Cancer Research UK funded project using Drosophila to study the mechanisms of cell division, specifically mitotic spindle formation, with the aim of identifying potential therapeutic targets for cancer. Using cell biological, biochemical and proteomics techniques to investigate the function of regulators of spindle formation. Developed a novel way of inhibiting the Aurora B kinase, an important regulator of spindle formation. Identified novel regulators of spindle formation using quantitative mass spectrometry proteomics and used R scripting to analyse the large complex datasets produced.I also carried out the analysis, interpretation and presentation of a wide variety of complex data to generate novel scientific results. As a senior member of the research group, I also supervised PhD and undergraduate students in the lab, managed budgets and resources.
