About Peter Davies

In 1969 a friend and I opened a leather work shop in Hawthorn, Australia. We named it EARTH Leatherworks, possibly one of the earliest to use our home planet as a business name. Since then it has been designing and creating leather pieces around the world - in Melbourne,London (Earth2), New York (Earth3), and now, back in Victoria EarthFive. Earth IV was an itinerant, a movable feast. Each location specialised in Handcrafted leather goods including; Belts, Bags, shoes, sandals, cases and assorted items for special customers and shops.     An English Electric KDP8 it was, a big machine constantly being fed punch cards and turning out reams of statements on the noisiest dot printer on the planet. The air-conditioned room was filled with rows of tape machines each with their pair of whirring reels; double locked doors, no smoking, no food ,no drink and we were even supposed to wear hairnets. Even the management had to ask permission to enter. Those were the days.
