GulfClean was a non-profit, volunteer organization with two objectives to help with the BP Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico:1. Be a central resource for the sharing of ideas that everyday folks can use to reclaim the spilled oil.2. To incentivize innovation; and via collaboration and crowdsourcing, invent ways to address the oil spill. We were a central repository and collaboration environment for "everyday people" to make suggestions for, brainstorm around, and build prototypes for cleaning the BP oil spill in the gulf. We received national exposure through a variety of mainstream media outlets and had several active user groups and projects underway. One specific project that came out of this initiative went on to become sponsored by the Gates Foundation, and is being used for water purification in socioeconomically high risk areas around the world.

Co-founded WildWires as a senior at James Madison University, and led a great team in growing the company from two employees to 20 over the following five years. Recipient of multiple leadership, innovation, and quality awards from vendors, organizations, and municipalities. Services included low voltage/structured wiring, outsourced IT helpdesk services for small vendors, walk-in computer repair and a great relationship with James Madison University, and custom application and web development. Notably shook the IT service industry in the surrounding areas with our innovative solutions, cutting-edge technology, terrific staff, and efficient processes. WildWires was cutting edge not only in technology, but in people management. We all worked extremely hard. 80 hour weeks were not uncommon. But neither were office BBQs, spontaneous nerf gun fights, mid-day gaming breaks, and office-wide laughter. We prided ourselves in our ability to brainstorm and think outside of the box, and it paid off. We were a bunch of young, energetic folks that had a great impact on the area. I still feel very fortunate to have been a part of this venture and this team. Joined forces with a strong competitor in 2006 to form Digerati.

What happens when you need to move your IT business to a new part of town, but high speed Internet isn't available? You start you own wireless internet service provider. Fresh Air Communications leveraged Proxim technology to deploy wireless Internet to a large portion of Harrisonburg, VA. We then shook up the monopolized market of internet service to college apartments by conquering the airwaves and bypassing the wires. We pioneered free wi-fi hotspots in the area, and partnered with dozens of local businesses to this end. We designed and deployed the entire network, from user management, to tower installations, to mass-market self-install kits for end users. We also ticked off a lot of our competitors, and not coincidentally, had the opportunity to sell the company in 2006.
