As an artist, educator & visual facilitator, I work with teams to understand & explain complex systems.Through meaningful discussion, drawing, brainstorming, design thinking, and visual storytelling we can coordinate humans to solve systemic problems in healthcare, technology, society, energy, climate, and social entrepreneurship. Thanks to my artistic and adventurous family, I was born in Kenya, grew up in the green hills of East Tennessee, and studied art and design in the United States, France, and Poland. Because of this, I cannot imagine a life without traveling, learning, and creating with others. As an educator, I teach other people how to turn ideas into images through online and onsite workshops on graphic recording and visual facilitation skills.I've had the pleasure of producing learning material, serving as a guest lecturer, and teaching workshops on visual facilitation for several universities, including Duke, NYU, USC, Vanderbilt, and Yale University.Even though my trial lawyer father dissuaded me from ever setting foot in a courtroom, I have an appointment as adjunct professor at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in Chicago – teaching visual communication and presentation design in the Master of Science in Law (MSL) program.Since 1995, I've spent a total of 10 years in Chicagoland, 5 years in Pittsburgh, 8 years years in hip and beautiful Nashville, and recently moved to the outer rings of Houston, Texas. I still travel to Nashville frequently to enjoy family and friends, and to work with colleagues at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center Office of Strategy & Innovation.Most importantly, I am blessed by fatherhood with two smart, hilarious daughters and will happily bounce on a trampoline when the opportunity presents itself.
