Currently, advise the healthy soils group and the innovation work in regenerative agriculture, environmentally smart horticulture, and Co2 capture, searching for the right technology to capture emissions and establish beneficial uses for the product output. I lead a scientist and staff working to build soil and sales opportunities. I also conduct outreach, speaking about combined bio-products.

As Chief Strategy Officer, I strategized the targeting and execution of sales targets on a local, state, and national level, identifying targets, partners, and prime buying motives. I also oversaw direct reports of 6 and a budget of $1M. Here I built a robust pipeline with 10-12 working projects to commercial close, accelerating speed-to-market and underpinning future growth. I also managed local and national legislative initiatives, large accounts, and grant programs, achieving recognition of anaerobic digestion to sustainably manage organic waste and digestate use as healthy soil product. I encouraged recent passage of a market program enabling legislation in Virginia and Maryland’s Organic Waste Diversion law requiring the use of organics recycling in waste management. I also oversaw expansion into Minnesota, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In addition, I advised senior management and the board on utilizing current laws in support of commercialization and development. Remarkably, I created national grant proposals of $6.2M focused on USDA, sustainable energy and initiatives in the fields of healthy soils. I also collaborated with the feds and the Dept. of Energy on statutory programs regarding Infrastructure and “Build Back Better” legislation. I directed a strategic team targeting and building trusting relationships with US Fortune 100 companies with a European footprint including sustainability and reduction of greenhouse gases reporting as a corporate goal, assisting firms in meeting and exceeding current waste diversion laws and communicating the importance of complying with Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Emission goals.

As employee #2 was tasked with growing the company from start-up status to fully operational, focus on individual projects enabling the team to close projects with 12 direct reports. I also countered a previous negative reputation of the technology of anaerobic digestion by establishing teams focusing on policy, community engagement, and education regarding company and product benefits. In addition, I strategized and presented benefits of anaerobic digestion across numerous community partners, regulatory government, and financial partners regarding land applications and environmentally smart waste management. I moved the execution process forward, from buying property to removing permitting restrictions, and finalizing operations . I closed the long-term lease of property with the State of Maryland and implemented the first urban-scale, organic driven, US based anaerobic digestor with 115,000+ tons of organic capacity a year. I also assumed a public speaking as the early face of the company at Waste Expo and the Natural Gas Association and the American Bio Gas Council. Introduced key stakeholders to the company as well as to the process of anaerobic digestion. Personnel, wise, I built a business development and marketing team focused on targeting the anaerobic digestion pipeline around key business points such as local acceptance of the solution-based technology, the creation of a revenue model combining waste disposal fees, as well as the sale of renewable energy and distribution of healthy soils. I also cemented grant funding in the National Capitol Region, with $1.7M+ in sustainable energy grants, combined heat and power use from the state of Maryland and the local Baltimore Gas and Electric utility. Of note, I created a robust and validated sales pipeline and internal corporate stage-gating process to ensure collaboration and improved communications cross functionally.

Here, I turned around a struggling incubator to grow in reputation and scope, creating an investment and mentorship community while advising and mentoring companies for equity and pay. I multiplied visitor traffic three times over to the center or 800+ per month, motivating ideas from early-stage angel funding to Series A. I guided 40 companies, directly advising with revenue opportunities. In addition, I accelerated growth of early-stage companies via integrated sales, marketing, and operational plans. Last but not least, I created an extensive Executive-In-Residence Program and associated Entrepreneur Training Program resulting in seed and “A” round funding success of $2.5 million.

For these three years as an instructor, I created and taught an entrepreneurship class to PhDs and MDs regarding idea and product market launches during an increased focus on worldwide product launches in the medical device and diagnostic field. I enabled presentations to investors. I also advised an early stage company whose products were purchased by Apple during the pandemic. One of my proudest accomplishments is encouraging ingenuity, innovation, creativity and confidence as well as ideation-to-product-to-launch in students. It’s the kind of thing that takes on a life of its own as the entrepreneurial grit and guts is passed on to people who are capable of and doing remarkable things.
