Consulting & New Career PathSelf-Employed May 2023 - Sep 2023I'm available for independent consulting as a technical manager, game developer, and/or senior programmer. Feel free to reach out as I love taking on new projects. However, my current focus is exploring my next career move. Connecting with old colleagues and friends has been exciting, and I've created this unconventional LinkedIn entry to share answers to common questions:• Why close your company?I'm proud of Thup's accomplishments, our successful client projects, and our original hits. I gained invaluable experience working in leadership roles, product development, and various technologies. After achieving more than I initially hoped, I'm ready for new challenges.• What roles are you seeking?I'm open-minded, considering opportunities in familiar industries like games and edtech, as well as broader web and mobile development positions. I'm actively exploring roles addressing climate change and climate education as well.• What are your top skills? As Thup's founder, I played various roles, from design director to sales. But my primary skills lie in creative technical strategy, team management, and software engineering leadership.• What management experience do you have?I've recruited and managed cross-functional teams, from small agile groups to large orgs with dozens of reports and multiple subcontractor companies.• What's your experience with general web, mobile & enterprise development?Though many products were games, they often built using web and mobile software development tech. For example, most products in the last 5 years used modern full-stack web platforms and scalable hosting solutions like AWS. I've got a deep understanding of internet technology, from high-level platforms to core protocols.• What kinds of companies might you be a good fit for?I'm adaptable and ready to contribute to organizations of various sizes and industries, from nimble startups to well-established companies.

Founder, Executive & Cto: Original Creative ProjectsThup Games (Thup.Com) Apr 2001 - Mar 2023New York, New York, UsThup’s business consisted of two categories: interactive projects we developed for clients & original creative works we developed & sold directly to consumers. As an independent company, it was crucial to identify emerging opportunities for new products so we could use our nimble structure to take advantage of them. While there’s always some luck involved, I’ve got a proven track record recognizing when there’s potential in a space and successfully executing a product to take advantage of it. In all of these projects I was co-creative lead, technical lead, and managed every aspect from team building to scheduling. Project teams on original projects ranged from small agile groups (5-10 reports) to larger orgs (>20 reports), plus subcontractor companies. ☲ PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS ☲• EDUCATION: MONKEY PRESCHOOL. These games were an early success on iPhone establishing many of the conventions of touch screen early learning. Since launch these games have sold millions and continue to generate significant MAU. Directed all development of these games as the market matured from native (objective C, Java) through early cross-platform tools to Unity Engine (C#).• VOICE: DOORWAYS. Pitched to Amazon who provided funding, we created a groundbreaking voice-only Alexa adventure game for kids. Directed a team of devs, writers and voice actors to create a layered puzzle game backed by a strong narrative. Pioneered new development techniques with a node/AWS lambda backend for supporting gameplay. One of the best performing voice games in its category.• INDIE GAMING. We were an early mover in casual web gaming. Products like Campaign Game, a political strategy game with social components, got major media attention (NY Times). More recently, I lead the design & development of a successful digital collectable game which raised over $2m in revenue. The game used a webgl/react frontend, a custom authoritative node server for security & blockchain components for collectible elements. -
Founder, Executive & Cto: Client Product DevelopmentThup Games (Thup.Com) Apr 2001 - Mar 2023New York, New York, UsAs a client services company, Thup developed original work for a range of media & fortune 500 companies. We successfully pitched in response to dozens of RFPs & created multiple award winning & wildly successful games & interactive products. For these projects we would supplement Thup staff with bespoke teams recruited to meet the specific needs of the product. Sometimes only a small dedicated group was required, in others we had to recruit and direct multiple subteams and subcontractors companies to execute larger projects.☲ PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS ☲• SHUFFLE TRIVIA (NCM/AMC Theaters). Developed large scale trivia products including “Noovie Shuffle” a browser game using emerging webgl tech for instant play. The game was introduced to players in thousands of theaters in the preshow to Avengers: Endgame. Directed a follow up product using Unity front end and custom containerized backend with several large teams for a subsequent app release.• ADULT SWIM (Cartoon Network). Created multiple successful & experimental games including HRMageddon, 2am Truckstop, & a social media integrated version of Robot Unicorn Attack.• NICK (TeenNick, The N, Viacom). Created games for all ages including several hugely popular social & emotional products for the tween audience of The N. These games had unconventional genre mash ups like a card-combat dating game or a combat-free prom themed tactical RPG. We receive heaps of emails from people who remember these games and would love to play them again, as well multiple petitions with thousands of signatures. These were groundbreaking products in technology & complexity for web games.Other notable clients include: Nestle, HBO, Fox Pictures, Frog Design, and more. -
