I am an employment and school law attorney representing private sector businesses and public schools on a variety of issues, including personnel investigations, employee discipline/terminations, employee leave, non-solicitation agreements, student rights and discipline, labor relations and collective bargaining, public entities’ obligations under Maine's Freedom of Access Act, and compliance with state and federal wage/hour, discrimination, harassment, and workplace safety laws. Although I counsel clients in an effort to minimize the risk of litigation, I have defended both public and private sector entities and individuals before various federal and state agencies, including the Maine Human Rights Commission, the Maine Labor Relations Board, and the Maine Department of Labor, in courtrooms at every level of the Maine judicial system, and before federal trial court and appellate judges.I have provided seminars for individual clients on a variety of issues, including student rights and due process, wage and hour compliance, effective teacher and staff evaluations, and copyright law in schools.
