CCE supplies consultancy services, backed by extensive knowledge of corrosion, corrosion control and materials. Work is mainly undertaken for the energy sector, consisting of long-term, short-term and ad-hoc assignments. Enquiries are welcome from all industries. CCE provides materials/corrosion engineering expertise and technical assurance for clients’ projects during design and construction phases and asset integrity support during the operational service life of facilities.Projects have involved collaboration with organisations in UK, Norway, Denmark, France, Belgium, UAE, Qatar and other countries. • Materials selection studies for subsea pipelines, topsides and onshore process and utility systems (pre-FEED / FEED / Detailed Engineering).• Corrosion risk assessments (probability of failure, consequences of failure) for pressure vessels, heat exchangers and piping within Risk Based Inspection (RBI) programmes. • Materials selection for design of surface facilities that transfer hydrogen between a salt cavern storage site in Cheshire and the UK national gas transmission network in withdrawal and injection modes.• Consultant to operator during design and onshore construction of four platforms for a North Sea gas field. Scope included materials, corrosion protection, procurement and fabrication support.• Advised client in MENA region on solutions to various protective coatings issues affecting the integrity of oil & gas facilities/pipelines and plant for production of aluminium (Hall-Heroult process) and CUI risk in an ammonia plant (Haber-Bosch process). • Assessed the impact of iron contamination on stainless steel surfaces and coated carbon steel surfaces for a European offshore wind fabricator. • Senior consultant materials engineer (contractor) with Genesis Oil and Gas Consultants Ltd (now Genesis Energies) in central London from 2010 to 2012.

Worked in the subsea & pipelines department. Produced materials and corrosion engineering deliverables for external clients and Xodus project teams in UK (Aberdeen, London) and Australia (Perth). Represented company at conferences in USA.Projects included:• Corrosion assessment, corrosion modelling, materials selection and coatings selection for subsea pipelines/structures and topsides/onshore facilities. • Cathodic protection design for subsea pipelines and subsea structures using sacrificial anodes. • Managed external lab testing programmes on behalf of clients to validate material selection or evaluate performance of corrosion inhibitor packages and inhibitor dosage optimisation.• Member of team coordinating site and lab investigations of ruptured subsea water injection pipeline. Produced summary report on findings and probable cause of failure. • Secondment in Talisman Energy projects group in 2008-2009, supporting materials procurement and fabrication of a 44-inch caisson riser (shell and internal risers for services including production, gas lift and water injection) and two 25Cr Duplex water injection risers for a production platform in the North Sea.

Joined Bodycote Corrosion Centre and undertook projects for external clients and internal clients (other Bodycote labs) worldwide. Provided services to a wide range of industry sectors including oil and gas. Represented company at conferences in USA. Contributed to workshop at Petroleum Research Centre (Tripoli, Libya) with lecture on sour service corrosion testing in environments containing hydrogen sulphide (H2S). Projects included:• Corrosion testing of steels, corrosion resistant alloys (CRAs) and CRA-clad carbon steels for pipelines, OCTG and drill pipe applications. • Managed Joint Industry Project in collaboration with TWI (UK) and Force Technology (Denmark), which developed a test method and prototype apparatus for assessing Stress Oriented Hydrogen Induced Cracking (SOHIC) in carbon steels. • Designed new equipment used in Corrosion Centre and other Bodycote group laboratories, expanding capacity and range of available services.After my departure, Bodycote Materials Testing was eventually acquired by Exova Group, which was in turn acquired by Element Materials Technology.

Responsible for technical and commercial operation of Corrosion Division. Member of team that successfully implemented ‘Investors in People’ scheme within company. Member of team that gained UKAS accreditation for NACE test methods TM0284 (Hydrogen Induced Cracking) and TM0177 (Sulphide Stress Cracking). Represented company at conferences in Europe, Bahrain and USA. Projects included:• Led team evaluating the performance of aluminium and zinc sacrificial anodes exposed to sour seawater and sour sediment for Blue Stream pipeline project in Black Sea (up to 2150 m water depth). • Led projects investigating corrosion resistance of stainless steels in high temperature deaerated and partially deaerated seawater for desalination and oilfield water injection applications.After my departure, the company was eventually acquired by Element Materials Technology.

Carried out corrosion testing programmes, joint industry projects (JIPs) and failure investigations mainly for the oil & gas, marine and chemical process industries. Responded to enquiries, prepared quotations and proposals, undertook projects and issued reports. Contributed articles for publication in company newsletter. Represented company at conferences in Europe and USA. Extensive practical experience with design of experiments and techniques for assessing corrosion damage mechanisms in simulated service environments. Projects included:• Qualification testing of rigid line pipe and flexible pipe armour wire for resistance to sulphide stress cracking and hydrogen induced cracking.• JIP in collaboration with Cortest Laboratories Inc (Houston, Texas), investigating safe use limits for duplex, austenitic, martensitic and precipitation hardening stainless steels in high pressure/high temperature sour production conditions. • JIP on sour limits of use for modified 13Cr grades vs. API 5CT 13Cr-L80 for downhole production tubing (OCTG). Sponsored by E&P operators, equipment manufacturers, Japanese and European steel makers and UK Health & Safety Executive. • Investigated hydrogen induced stress cracking (HISC) of duplex stainless steel under cathodic protection, following high profile failure of subsea equipment in North Sea. • On behalf of Cortest Inc (Cleveland, Ohio), installed high pressure/high temperature autoclave systems in laboratories in Indonesia, Sweden, Saudi Arabia and Italy. • Site visit to RO desalination plant in Malta, investigating corrosion of sea water intake lines.
