As an architect with more than 20 years of experience, I have significant multidisciplinary experience in all phases of architecture, urban, and interior design. I also have experience in quality assurance, technical management, project management, construction, contract administration, and sustainable design. Since gaining my LEED accreditation, I am passionate about my role and responsibility to lead the design process and achieve excellence. During my career, I have worked in every phase of projects in corporate, commercial, civic, retail, and single- and multi-family residences. Within the firm, I have a well-developed ability to maintain a clear and consistent vision of business needs and communicate them effectively with various internal and external groups. In this capacity, I produce cost savings while driving more efficient use of time, staff, and resources. I formulate solutions using exceptional analysis skills and a strong aptitude for keeping track of critical details without losing sight of the overall goal. My ultimate goal is to incorporate green design and construction principals in renovations, restorations of historic buildings, and new construction. Some examples of projects where I have been able to achieve this goal include the University of Tampa Health Science Human Performance Building, the University of Tampa Bob Martinez Athletic Center, and the historic property restoration at 1708 Columbus Drive in Tampa.

Principal | Coo | DesignerDesign Styles Architecture Dec 1998 - Mar 2014Tampa, Florida, UsStarting as a two-person firm in 1998, dsa+ went through some business ups and downs, but we survived the economic downturn of 2008 and grew to 22 personnel and $2M in revenue by 2014. This major accomplishment happened when market conditions were so bad that many firms dwindled to only the principals or went out of business. Firms that were able to stay in business have not seen the same resurgence we did. We attribute our resurgence to good design, excellent service, and effective business management – all my responsibilities as designer, principal, and COO. Examples of my successes in design, renovation, new construction, and restoration of historic properties, include: University of Tampa Health Science Human Performance Building Originally constructed in 1940, the one-story, 10,300 SF building was too small to meet current needs. I sequenced the timeline to keep the building in use during construction of a second floor, adding 4 laboratories and 9 classrooms for an additional 12,300 SF of usable space. University of Tampa Bob Martinez Athletic Center An extremely demanding challenge in architectural and structural needs, I designed a centerpiece for the campus with the Sword and Shield Room, containing a 45’-tall stainless steel sword that bisected the building envelope, with half on the exterior and half in the Sword and Shield Room interior. We complemented the sword with a 24’-diameter shield incorporated into the 30’-high ceiling. Historic Property, 1708 Columbus Drive, Tampa, Florida Purchased and renovated a 1930s-era grocery store according to LEED Gold standards and earned recognition from the City of Tampa as a historic property. I was project lead on all aspects, showcasing my commitment to green building guidelines such as energy efficiency, water savings, sustainable site selection, resource re-use, and quality indoor environment. This property is used by the city as an example of redevelopment possibilities. -

I was the only designer in a 7-person firm designing and planning for the residential market, focused primarily on single- and multi-family projects.

DesignerArthur Rutenberg Homes 1995 - 1998St Petersburg, Florida, UsI learned so much from this position because I interacted directly with Arthur Rutenburg and the Director of Design for the company, to design and develop a new Model Homes. This company was a southeastern high-end custom home builder and franchisor. Arthur Rutenburg Homes provided model home design, purchasing support, and business systems for the franchise network. The firm was consistently listed in the top 100 largest builders nationally in revenue and was ranked by Professional Builder Magazine. There were 100 employees in the corporate office. Along with the lead architect and director of design, I participated in weekly presentations to Arthur Rutenburg for approval of new designs. The presentation included not only the architecture, but also competitive analyses, market analyses, and a demonstration of how this product fit within the overall business plan. I designed residences ranging from 1400 SF to 9000 SF within both cost-managed and luxury markets with varied budgets and final home costs ranging from $185K to more than $1.5M. In addition, I produced design development, construction document, and construction phase drawings. Moving up from the most junior CAD Draftsman to CAD Manager to Designer in a relatively short period of time was a great challenge and accomplishment. Earning a position as a Designer and being able to contribute and interact with Arthur Rutenberg was an exceptional learning and professional experience. As CAD Manager, I oversaw 26 in-house CAD Stations and several other stations within the franchise network. In this position, I developed company-wide CAD Standards to ensure consistency across projects within the company.
