I act as a civil practitioner specialising in dealing with commercial disputes faced by companies, their directors, shareholders and employees. I am happy to accept instructions as counsel from solicitors, or through public/direct access.My extensive commercial experience gives me a distinctive ability to understand and analyse company accounts and financial information as well as complex business structures. This allows me to make a valuable contribution to disputes involving consideration of financial information and cross-examination of experts; valuation of companies and any financial wrongdoing. My skills and experience are particularly valuable in such matters as shareholder and director disputes, breach of fiduciary duties, company law, breaches of contract, wrongful trading, insolvency, civil and criminal fraud, banking and finance matters, and investment disputes. My financial experience also adds significant value to resolving family disputes where the valuation of business assets and investments is a key issue. I have a wide experience of business and family negotiations and, coupled with my experience of mediation, this places me in a strong position for being involved in all forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution. I am also a co-author of Practical Guide to Effective Dispute Resolution: Methods & Clauses (https://tinyurl.com/y5brszw2) including the chapters on non-binding methods, the application of AI, and the psychology of dispute resolution. My practical experience of how companies work provides an added dimension when dealing with employment disputes including unfair and wrongful dismissal and discrimination claims, acting for both employers and employees.Prior to joining the Bar, I started my career with a PhD in chemical engineering and spent 15 years with ICI in a variety of roles in research, production, sales and business management. In 1999, I led a management buyout and implemented a buy-and-build strategy to build a leading European specialty chemical producer. In parallel to my career at the Bar, I remain actively involved in investing and building a diverse range of successful companies working as a Chairman/entrepreneur/non-executive in the chemicals, logistics, food, consumer and legal sectors.
