As a driver of new and innovative curriculum ideas, such as a Year Six program called ‘Connecting to Cairns’. I researched the new program and developed it for Trinity Anglican School, in order to address many of the educational goals for young Australians as outlined in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration. Connecting with Cairns targets students in the transitional year from primary to secondary (Year Six) and is an exciting opportunity for students to connect what they learn in the classroom and apply it in a real-world setting. This signature program, which is unique to TAS, involves students utilising market research techniques to collect data, and build a website and supporting documentation to showcase the information they have gathered. The students test, iterate and reflect on their work in order to improve user experience and then leverage their public speaking skills to present their final version to their peers and the wider community. The basis of this program is to challenge students to work collaboratively with their peers, seek advice from experts and interact with the local Cairns community. Not only will students experience and learn about social and technological change, but they will also need to be flexible, resilient, creative, and have the drive to keep on learning which not only mirrors skills required to survive in the current workplace but to adapt to the uncertain workplace of the future.

The main area of focus is to assist teachers in enhancing learning through the integration of ICT across the curriculum. Emphasis of all instruction should be in enhancing content/pedagogy learning whilst strengthening the ICT skills of students, and staff. KEY FOCUS AREAS: • Assist staff to develop learning and teaching programmes incorporating valid, relevant and authentic use of ICT in ways that support the principles and scope of our Curriculum Framework.• Collaborating with teachers in integrating ICT into the curriculum. Innovatively work towards integrating ICT with teaching practice in a relevant way that strengthens content, and assists the teacher teams. • Maintain through PD and networking, an up to date knowledge of evolving I.C.T. curriculum trends and debate through relevant and regular professional development for the team members as appropriate, to achieve “best practice” at St Andrew’s.• Identify trends in software, curriculum, teaching strategies and new resources. Having a bigger picture view of where education is heading in the 21st century is an advantage. Review the latest on-line resources and applications and recommend relevant software and hardware which is consistent with current ‘best practice’ and with College principles and educational aims to the ICT Committee for possible implementation in the College.• Team teach to provide the technological expertise to support student learning.• Assist leaders and teachers to gain the skills appropriate for developing new technology-based coursework.• Ensure that the Learning Leadership Group is informed of new approaches to ICT integration.• Ensure that all College Portal information is current, accurate and reflects College ‘best practice’.• Generally develop and support new initiatives with regard to ICT use in learning and teaching where appropriate, in conjunction with the Head of Teaching and Learning.
