About Peter Gordon

How will Fintech and Banking integrate more seamlessly in the next wave of payments? We have moved to an era of real-time, data-driven consumer interactions where payments are embedded “effortlessly”. These trends pose both opportunities, such as a smoother and cheaper transition to instant payments, as well as challenges from regulatory oversight, cybersecurity, and tech modernization. As the Founder of Atlantic Fintech Advisors (AFA), I am continuing to lead the way for our industry to make money movement faster, cheaper, and more transparent for all. Before AFA, I spent 30 years innovating banking and payments and leading real-time payments both in the U.S. and Europe. I am the rare payment executive who knows both the card side AND the banking side inside out. Education and early career background in information technology, finance/banking, and consulting have further enabled me to navigate and disrupt the payments world. Career Highlights:⎷ For U.S. Bank (the nation’s fifth largest), quickly building a high-performing payments team and then developing and implementing an embedded payments strategy, which involves integrating U.S. Bank's Payments with Fintech partners such as Microsoft's Teams and Dynamic platforms.⎷ As a digital banking pioneer, starting one of the first online platforms for financial services with RBS/Citizens in 2004. ⎷ Founding First Commons Bank and serving on the Board from inception to sale. We were a community bank that leveraged technology to provide personalized services to the mass affluent from 2009 to 2018 before being acquired by Brookline Bank (NASDAQ: BRKL).⎷ Serving on the 18-member Federal Reserve's Faster Payments Task Force Steering Committee in 2015, which created the foundational criteria for FedNow. ⎷ Founding PayNet at FIS, the first U.S.-based, global, real-time, non-card-based payments network for domestic and international money movement (patent issued in 2019).⎷ Serving as Mastercard's Global Real-time Payment (RTP) Evangelist, spearheading the strategy for Mastercard's Biller Exchange and RTP approach. To achieve these and other innovations, I have relied on some of the highest-performing teams in the Payments industry, leading with a style that is both demanding and caring. I enjoy connecting the dots and reconnecting with and introducing colleagues. I am a leading speaker on future disruption in payments at venues like CNBC, M2020, NACHA Payments, Babson, Harvard Club, SIBOS, Atlanta Trend, and the USF Fintech program.
