Partner
CurrentAs part of a diverse water and natural resources law practice, I assist nonprofits, local, state, and tribal government agencies, and business entities with strategic planning, project planning, and real estate acquisitions. In addition to my law practice, I help clients with issues before Congress, the Washington State Legislature, and federal and state government agencies, working to pass federal and state legislation, secure public funding for projects, and develop collaborative public/private partnerships for large-scale, innovative solutions to natural resource challenges. I have also used my experience building collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders to help create, facilitate, and motivate coalitions of non-traditional allies focused on long-term environmental restoration and economic sustainability. As a water lawyer, I have negotiated the earliest transactions in Washington State securing water rights for instream flow, created and implemented the first local government efforts to secure water rights for mitigation in Washington State, and led efforts to create watershed-scale climate and drought resiliency strategies through partnerships involving tribes, agriculture, local, state and federal government agencies, and the environmental community. As a conservation real lawyer and project manager, I have negotiated and closed on the purchase of over 350,000 acres and over $600 million of land for outdoor recreation and public access, habitat protection, conservation of farmland, and carbon sequestration. As a facilitator and political strategist, I have helped cultivate and lead numerous successful multi-stakeholder, collaborative efforts among historically-adverse constituents to solve complex natural resource issues involving water resources, tribal treaty rights, coastal restoration, forest health, climate resiliency, recreational access to public lands, and public land acquisition and protection.
