The Bay Area Charter School Athletic Conference, which I founded with two other colleagues in 2007, provides extensive sports programs for East Bay charter high schools. It is the first charter school league admitted to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and is part of its Oakland Section. I have been providing the part-time financial management support to the organization since I stepped away from the day-to-day operations.

Publicly elected five-term board member responsible for policy and $200 million budget for 6 comprehensive high schools, a charter school, a middle college and an alternative high school serving 8700 students in six cities along the mid-San Francisco Peninsula. In addition, the District operates an adult school with9600 students. The Governing Board is also responsible for direction and oversight of a $700 million modernization and renovation construction program. Have served as board president four times and previously served as president of the San Mateo County School Boards Association and a member of California School Boards Association's Delegate Assembly, its policy making body, as well as its High School Reform Task Force and Policy Committee.• Supported increased graduation requirements and new curriculum placing all 9th and 10th graders on track to meet the UC/CSU entrance requirement. • Led effort to open District’s advanced placement classes to all students, resulting in 40% increase in tests taken in just three years with no decline is passing rate. Leading current effort to expand access to college classes, doubling size of middle college and bringing college classes on high school campuses.• Championed more options for families, increasing their ability to choose which high school they would like to attend and helping create a high quality charter school.

I rejoined the Amethod Public Schools Board in January 2020 after an 18 month break. Served as Board of Directors president 2014-17, VP for 17-18 for this charter management organization with six high performing elementary, middle, and high schools in Oakland and Richmond, California. The goal of Amethod Public Schools is to provide a fundamental and rigorous college preparatory education to any student that chooses one of our schools. All AMPS graduates will have gone through a challenging academic and character development program that will ready graduates to enter and succeed in college, and provide options for future endeavors.I focused on the organization's expansion to Richmond, which now offers K-12, and the creation of innovative leadership and teacher development programs, which include career ladders based on performance and achievement. Led, with the CEO, development of our three-year strategic plan, approved in June 2016, which is driving K-8 expansion into Sacramento. Chaired the Facilities and Nominating subcommittees. Facilities subcommittee has overseen the financing and acquisition of multiple new spaces for expanding schools and our headquarters.

Led the merger of the American Center for School Choice with Discovery Institute to increase the resources available to both organizations, creating the new American Center for Transforming Education. Directed national analysis of 2016 legislative prospects for enacting parental choice legislation, ending in selection of Oklahoma as the Commission on Faith-based School’s primary focus. Created state’s first multi-faith coalition, Faith Leaders for Parental Empowerment in Education, to increase support for education savings account legislation, recruiting 270 members in just three months. Established new social media presence via Facebook and Twitter to support 2016 organizing work. Hired new staff and transitioned Internet presence.

Was a founding board member and served as Vice Chair of Board of Trustees for this Waldorf-inspired public charter school that opened in 2011. This school is bringing the principles of Waldorf education to an urban area, which is rare in the US, where most Waldorf schools are private. The school is currently serving grades K-8 in Oakland's San Antonio district. It has one of the most diverse demographics in Oakland and serves primarily economically disadvantaged students.

The American Center for School Choice, now part of Discovery Institute, focused on bringing school choice to the center of the political spectrum. Empowering families to choose the school and educational opportunity that best suits their children is inherently good for society. By the way, it's likely to improve the quality of education!• Developed strategic plan and recruited nationally recognized education leaders to join the organization’s leadership.• Successfully increased funding and grew this national organization.• Created national ecumenical Commission on Faith-based Schools to expand public understanding and appreciation of the role of faith-based schools in American education, especially in low-income communities; and address the need for expanding publicly funded school choice to increase a family’s ability to choose from among a full range of options.• Co-authored Commission’s report to the nation and supervised the creation of the “Assembling the Evidence” web site with unique information on faith-based schools.

Elected by my San Mateo County School board peers, I represented them in this policy making body for the Association. The Delegate Assembly elects the Association leadership and adopts positions on legislation, regulations, and state initiatives.

I worked with the 34 charter schools in Oakland on common issues, such as access to facilities, relationships with the Oakland Unified School District, and grant writing. I have started the Bay Area Charter School Athletic League and secured a federal grant for emergency preparedness training.

Provide part-time leadership and assist in growing this nonprofit education reform organization that supports increased choice in education. Drafted position papers and published op-eds on educational spending, teaching, testing, and dropout rates as well as developed two year work plan and budget. Authored detailed analyses of teacher union policies and preschool ballot initiative. Formed companion 501 (c) (3) foundation and obtained IRS and California recognition.

Provided analysis and evaluation of Oakland’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects, funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Work focused on complex residential and small business lending programs that aid moderate- and low-income residents, as well as efforts to revitalize commercial activities in 15 districts, accounting for 60% of the entire program’s funds. Evaluations also included smaller learning community high schools, a charter school, a specialized K-8 mathematics program, and a tutoring program. Evaluations documented current performance and recommended steps for improvement. Drafted successful charter school petition.

Directed major strategic planning projects and contributed to Institute analyses of changes in business environment. Headed “Future of Global Mail” project for four years ($1 million plus) sponsored by nine international postal authorities as well as mail handling equipment manufacturers. Posts sought to understand impact of growing consumer wealth, education, and technology sophistication on business communication to 2010. Led new project forecasting how large customers of electric utilities would evolve to 2010. Authored two-volume report covering traditional manufacturing industries, such as chemicals, paper, and plastics, and commercial users such as retail and education. Directed "The Future of America's Research-Intensive Industries," to assess the changing environment for research and development. The ten-year forecast for eight leading research-intensive sectors also recommended a public policy agenda to assure that the U.S. maintains its current leadership.

Business International, part of The Economist Group of London, was the leading provider of analysis and advice on business environments in 165 countries. Responsible for all business for 15 states and 2 provinces. Managed sales, service, and administrative staffs.• Advised senior executives of primarily Fortune 500 companies, many in energy and high technology industries, on doing business profitably in key world markets.• Turned around region's sales performance in one year, tripling sales by reorganizing territories, increasing sales calls and quotas, and reassessing customer needs.
