Towards the end of my cadetship with RMS, Rosebank Engineering offered me an engineering internship. Rosebank Engineering are contracted to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and conduct their work on the Richmond RAAF base. I continued studying during this period so I would not fall too behind in my expected university finish date. My primary position was to work on components for C-130 Hercules' and P3 Orion's.While working for Rosebank Engineering I received my Forklift License and Cadmium Plating Certificate. I not only inspected, assembled and tested components, but I also performed machining on components. I mainly worked on a lathe to make extra bushes for cylinders and worked with the machinists on a MIL for any extra work. The testing of hydraulic components required a hydraulic rig which after 3 months I was competent in using. All work carried out followed ISO 9001 - Quality Management System demonstrating my consistency and ability to meet requirements set for this standard.Below is a summary of the duties I performed;• Assisting technical personnel in repair and overhaul of hydraulic aircraft components and landing gears• Perform disassembly, inspection and assembly of aircraft components• Complete initial aircraft component assessment• Perform maintenance work• Hydraulic pressure testing of aircraft components on hydraulic rig• Designing and constructing tools to assist with assembly/disassembly• Manufacturing equipment using a machine tools• General workshop duties

I attained a cadetship while studying full time with the Roads and Traffic Authority who, while I was working there, became the Roads and Maritime Services. It was a great experience exposing me to a range of engineering applications. I was originally tasked with creating a database for all 12 ferries RMS operate, but as I managed to get through this faster than expected, I also assisted the project manager with other areas that needed attention.I gained a White Card and Confined Space Permit to conduct any further duties required on site such as regular inspections. I worked closely with contractors and assisted in the design and construction of a Variable Message Sign (VMS) which required heritage and environmental reports and the construction of a new 24 car ferry. On top of this I created a Ferry Operating and Maintenance Manual for all 12 ferries.Below is a list summarising my duties;• Inspecting mechanical and hydraulic parts of ferries• Creating a database with mechanical and hydraulic components and their specifications on Microsoft Excel and Access• Analysing technical drawings• Liaising with external companies for engineering reports• Creating ferry operating and maintenance manuals• Examining tender proposals• Negotiating with contractors
