Pete got his degree in Physics and Maths at the University of Sheffield, and has worked at Ferranti, ICL, Inmos, Prisma, Bull, Motorola SPS/Freescale/NXP, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and most recently as a contractor to Condor; unfortunately a stroke in June 2023 has made this a non contributing position for the moment. Some experiences: - design of hard realtime systems for the British Navy [Ferranti DSD] - early vision processing and "DSP" (tracking targets found from surveillance radars) - collaborator in the investigation and design of a small-domain capability system for embedded systems - architecture studies for an improved processor for an intelligent terminal [ICL] - intelligent device (disk and graphics) analysis, research and proposals [Inmos Ltd] - Microcomputer Applications Manager [Inmos Corp] - managed a small group looking at how systems worked and could be improved [Bull HN] - created csp-based simulation/modeling language - assisted in due diligence on PowerPC, DEC Alpha for Bull use - novel multiprocessor verification tools for the PPC 620 - initiated and then helped drive technical aspects of the Motorola Computer Group/Bull partnership - drove new Book E PowerPC architecture [Motorola SPS] - defined the PowerPC e500 core arch and extensions - drove creation of RapidIO, creating or driving over 30 disclosures - initiated the creation of the PowerPC e200 family of cores, used in automotive SoCs and reopening the automotive SoC market for Motorola - worked on the architectural and product opportunities offered by a III-V-on-silicon technology [Thoughtbeam] - investigated and validated the advantages of a reduced-footprint ISA for Book E [Motorola SPS] - prototyped ADL (Architecture Description Language) allowing the formal description of architectures and the automatic generation of assembler, disassembler, reference model etc - defensive IP work, working with both external and internal counsel - helped initiate Freescale Discovery Labs. - research into low-energy, high-performance, highly parallel architectures [FDL]He retired from NXP in December 2016 and is now CTO (and everything else) at Kiva Design Groupe, LLC near Austin Texas. He also participated in the design of a supercomputer at BSC.
