I am motivated by the interrelationships between city planning, multi-scalar infrastructure development, and urban ecological design, particularly in developing low-carbon, adaptive, and inclusive metropolitan regions.Built and natural environments must be enmeshed in our planning and design processes to address the challenges urban regions will face in the 21st century. I am interested in how planning for this ecological urbanism can address deepening social inequality and the need for economic integration of marginalized communities.Regenerative practices in urban biophilic design and urban farming have enthused me. In particular, I am interested in how the growing field of neuroscience in urban landscapes can influence forms, flora, and fairness in city design. I've also been involved in research relating to the development of 'smart' urban agriculture methods, including Fogponics. I am passionate about how the surrounding environment, technological change, and the underlying social needs shape our thoughts, actions, and behavior in the contemporary city.My research assistantship has helped advance my knowledge of material ecologies and their fabrication, installation, and performance. This has included a more holistic life cycle analysis, including embodied energy within the landscape and building industries. I am driven to find design and planning prescriptions that borrow cues from biology, including nature-based solutions, bio-mimicry, and infrastructural ecologies. Given the need to leapfrog Western carbon-intensive models of city building and city life, how do we avoid design monocultures?I have worked in various roles in the non-profit, research, public, and private sectors, including work in Memphis, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Ithaca, NY. I hold degrees in City Planning from Cornell and urban design from The Spitzer School of Architecture. A commitment to social and environmental justice interweaves the majority of my endeavors. I finish my Masters in Landscape Architecture in December 2024.
