Over 45 years experience in the consulting engineering sector, specialising in advisory and strategic consulting services in the carbon reduction, renewable energy, transportation and water sectors. Now retired from full time employment, I continue to be active in advising clients in national and local government. I work as a strategic advisor and consultant to WSP, on water, energy and decarbonising infrastructure. I'm also an active contributor to the ICE, Universities and other organisations. I serve on the ICE's South West Infrastructure Partnership (SWIP) initially representing the energy and low carbon growth sectors before serving as chair and then representing professional services firms. I also enjoy a bit of cycling, seeing the world as a tourist rather than on business and researching my family tree which produced some interesting results! I have authored many papers on future infrastructure, energy policy, low carbon pathways, environmental assessment and tidal power. Many of these have been presented regionally, nationally and internationally at conferences and symposia. Between 2010 and 2015, I was the UK representative on the editorial panel for EFR, Parsons Brinckerhoff's global publication that provides critical intelligence to industry professionals. http://efr.wsp-pb.com/Prior to retirement, I was responsible for Parsons Brinckerhoff's i(now WSP) infrastructure policy engagement and embryonic market development in the UK. Most recent assignments included leading several studies for Government and local authorities on tidal power development in the UK, including the assessment of engineering options and strategic environmental assessment for the Severn Tidal Power Feasibility Study, published in 2010. My work in tidal power over the past decade helped when I was appointed Chair of the South West Marine Energy Park in 2012. In addition to tidal power, I also led Parsons Brinckerhoff's work in coastal engineering, reservoirs (I was a Supervising Engineer under The Reservoirs Act for 30 years) and a number of low carbon and strategic policy studies in the transportation and energy sectors. Specialties: Infrastructure for the Low Carbon Economy, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Marine Power, Sustainable Development, Social Value, Clean Growth and Infrastructure Policy
