Dr. Pyun is a founding CDO & SVP of LGES (LG Energy Solution). He is responsible for driving transformation of all business processes of LGES onto data-driven & AI-driven ones. On smart factory, he is driving its efforts on transforming all its global manufacturing facilities into smart factories, to better improve battery manufacturing process. LGES works with global big electric carmakers to provide batteries including Tesla, Volkswagen, Hyundai, General Motors (GM), and Stellantis. A few collaborations are in a form of a joint venture to produce battery cells and modules for electric cars in worldwide. Before LGES, he was a Principal Data Scientist at Nvidia HQ, leading multiple projects as a lead architect on autonomous vehicles, industrial AI, and Cloud AI. He received PhD degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University in Machine Learning and Computer Vision, with multiple top-notch journal papers published on statistical machine-learning based semantic image retrieval and image segmentation. He has 31 US patents and 28 peer-reviewed international publications with +30 invited speeches. Results were deployed to millions of devices, and processed billions of AI requests. Demonstrated real autonomous driving at Audi Q7 to +200 VIPs at Las Vegas. Successful AV collaboration led to strategic collaboration between Nvidia and Audi and developed into Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, HMC partnership.
