Actuarial Financial Analyst / Information Technology DirectorMilliman 1993 - Dec 2001Seattle, Wa, UsUpon graduation I worked as an actuarial analyst with this global consulting firm servicing life and health insurance companies. My claim to fame was automating the analysis of the policyholder distributions from a large insurance company demutualization in a Lotus 1-2-3 macro (remember that?) using 30 desktop computers to run the analysis overnight. The data was so large and took so long to run on 1 PC that I remember many a late night setting up the macro on other staff PC's to pull in the data, perform the calc, export to a file and then repeat. I then had to get in early to save the data before everyone came back in to work! After 4 years of actuarial analyst work, I became more interested in IT and converted to an IT director role where I wore many hats managing local and wide area networks, Lotus Notes and Access databases, video conferencing and other IT stuff that I geeked out on.
