Appliance And Accessory Productivity Lead
• Responsible for driving savings in COGS for all appliances and accessories • Identified key stakeholders and organized them into a cross-functional core team and steering committee to provide program governance. Combined several pre-existing cost savings programs across KGM into one combined effort • Engaged external development partners and internal resources to perform structured cost reduction activities on areas of high spend in appliances, including – working with product management to understand feature value and cost, structured redesign of high costs sub-systems, identification of high cost components to aid in substitution or discovery of alternates, and identifying opportunities for outsourcing• Directed the creation of financial models with KGM finance leaders to properly assess ROI on potential projects, aligned with business forecasting and product strategies. Developed optimized roadmap to maximize cash savings and ROI for upcoming fiscal year
Hot Appliance Technical Lead
• Lead a team of US and APAC based engineers to successfully develop and launch three appliance programs on time while meeting product design and functional intent• Initiated the use of tracking and collaboration tools (Redmine, then Jira/Confluence) to drive knowledge sharing among cross-functional development partners and facilitate communication and tracking with internal technical partners. • Bridged quality and marketing organizations to ensure marketing’s intent was properly represented in product specifications and PSI/AQL documents and procedures• Leveraged existing product quality test infrastructure to shorten development test times• Oversaw the application of rigorous reliability testing for qualification of new technological initiatives• Applied DFM principles to core product technology to produce new models with signifcant reduction in FOB costs while still meeting functional and performance needs• Extensive experience developing relationships with manufacturing and engineering partners in China, Hong Kong and Malaysia
Sr. Research Engineer, Unmanned Power Systems
• Developed advanced power generation and distributions systems for UAV's, UGV's, space systems, and soldier borne applications.• Designed and flew first fuel cell power system on a fielded hand-launched unmanned aerial vehicle. Over several iterations, increased mission duration from 3 hours to 10 hours.• Developed advanced power system for deployed bomb disposal robot, increasing mission duration metrics by a factor of 3.• Extensive experience developing miniature fluid systems for fuel cell power plant and hydrogen on demand chemical hydride processing systems. Key accomplishments: reduced system mass by 60% while increasing power density by 50%, developed bubble tolerant liquid coolant systems for flows in 500 - 1500 cc/min range, invented low pressure drop phase separation techniques to reclaim condensed water from humidified gas flows.• Designed and implemented portable systems for processing aqueous chemical hydride solution into clean hydrogen gas. This involved controlled dilution of reactants, multiple phase separation steps, and managing the flow of a precipitating media through pumps, valves and miniature plumbing.• Sourced and characterized COTS liquid and air pumps, valves, and sensors.• Designed and implemented modifications to COTS pumps to increase performance metrics including mechanical and electrical modifications.• Lead computational fluids analyst: Used CFD to support design of heat exchangers, fuel cell stack flow fields, and hydrogen purifiers. Sourced and managed CFD servers and software.
Contract Design Engineer
• Designed high volume injection molded parts for military, aerospace, and medical applications.• Researched key product line failures, utilized statistical tolerance modeling and GD&T to modify dimensioning scheme on existing drawings to allow incoming inspection to identify potential failures.
Principal Investigator / Research Engineer
Performed feasibility analysis and system modeling which identified key technology metrics that would enable fuel cells to power general aviation aircraft; co-wrote technical proposal to NASA GRC and won $600K to implement the design (contract NAS-3-03085)• Developed and maintained system and sub-system specifications for 75 kW electric propulsion system hybridized with NiMH batteries and pressurized Hydrogen fuel cell. Performed requirements flow down from top level mission requirements (160km cruise) to sub system performance parameters • Managed key technology partner’s development work including university and commercial entities. Ensured functional compatibility between groups and managed development partner technical milestones • Detailed mechanical design of components including rotating drive train components (100shp), structural mounting space frame, and packaging and routing of high voltage (300VDC) power and pressurized Hydrogen fuel (3000 psig).
