Led four distinct operations, including Ceded Reinsurance, P&C Runoff, Life and Long-Term Care.  CEDED REINSURANCE: Managed team of 60 placement professionals, lawyers, accountants, and claim professionals. Purchased reinsurance necessary to adequately protect company’s earnings and balance sheet from large exposures. - Decreased significantly the number of reinsurance purchases. Centralized purchasing and reduced annual number of programs bought from over 80 to five. - Reduced reinsurance recoverables from $16B to $5B through a combination of rationalization of reinsurance purchases, aggressive claim collections and commutations. P&C RUNOFF: Managed orderly runoff of discontinued lines, including CNA Re and Excess Workers’ Compensation, with goal of reducing company’s exposure to aforementioned lines of business by implementing an aggressive claim and commutation strategy. - Reduced company’s gross reliabilities from CNA Re from $1.7B to $200M. - Reduced expenses dramatically and staff from 120 employees to 25.  LIFE: Managed Payout Annuity and Structured Settlement business, with reserves in excess of $3B. Rationalized administration of this business by offshoring backroom functions, allowing CNA to recognize significant savings. - Completed sale of payout annuity business in 2014. LONG-TERM CARE: Directed the company’s LTC business, with over $10B of reserves. Developed new LTC strategy, including implementation of new rate increases and claim model. Rebuilt team of 30 professionals. - Implemented new rate increase strategy, resulting in additional $100M of revenue. - Created new claim protocols, which significantly reduced utilization. New claim protocols significantly reduced claim turnaround time by over 20 days.

Led life and health assumed reinsurance operations. Developed and implemented new strategy, returning this underperforming business to profitability within 24 months. Expanded role in 2000 to include assumed accident reinsurance after U.S. and London Accident operations experienced significant losses. Oversaw team of approximately 20 employees, responsible for underwriting, claims, premium administration, accounting, and financial reporting. - Placed the assumed accident reinsurance businesses into runoff and successfully managed orderly runoff of liabilities. - Settled assumed accident gross liabilities in excess of $1B for less than $500M.
