I'm a social researcher and consultant who looks at how people engage with culture, broadly defined: the arts, media, public space, science, history, community, philanthropy. I co-lead the Chicago-based research and evaluation firm Slover Linett, which works with equity-minded changemakers and funders to create authentic dialogue with audiences and participants, deepen engagement and service, and strengthen community. During the pandemic and recovery, I've been helping lead a national research and dialogue collaboration, with Culture Track (LaPlaca Cohen), Yancey Consulting, and other partners, Culture + Community in a Time of Crisis (CCTC), supported by the Wallace, Barr, Terra, and Art Bridges foundations and by FocusVision and Microsoft. This initiative aims to help the cultural sector reopen with wider relevance, inclusion, and equity, in part by amplifying BIPOC voices.I'm passionate about understanding and advancing equity, inclusion, and decolonization in those and other forms of culture, and excited about the potential of asset-based and co-creative approaches to empower communities. AssociateCultural Policy Center At The University Of Chicago Dec 2009 - May 2015Chicago, Il, UsAs a longtime collaborator and advisor of the Cultural Policy Center, I helped its executive and faculty leadership develop a variety of strategic initiatives, including a study of the building boom in performing arts centers and museums (Set in Stone) and a report on the opportunities and challenges facing university-based art museums. I was a visiting associate at the Cultural Policy Center during 2010, giving talks on subjectivity in cultural engagement and innovation in classical music and museums.
