I am an experienced financial services and compliance professional, with a passion for designing and implementing solutions to regulatory challenges which enable businesses to generate good outcomes for consumers alongside commercial success. I have delivered work to a high standard in both commercial and regulatory environments, and as a result I understand the competing pressures of both and how to achieve a good balance between them. As a compliance manager in the industry I successfully delivered adherence to regulatory requirements, including interfacing with regulators, whilst being appropriately mindful of the need for the business to be profitable. At the FCA, I was a prominent contributor to redesigning and implementing the FCA supervisory approach and model, and communicating this to FCA staff, firms and other stakeholders. I also managed the Investment Advisers & Platforms thematic supervision team, and a team that oversaw the supervision of the credit union sector. During my time in this role, credit unions in Northern Ireland became FSA-regulated for the first time, and the Legislative Reform Order, which expanded the capacity of credit union activity, became law. Since joining Grant Thornton UK LLP in 2016, I have led a wide variety of complex regulatory assignments, including Skilled Person reviews, designing advice propositions and processes, risk management frameworks, past business reviews (including of Defined Benefit pension transfers), and other complex remediation projects.I am a motivated team leader, with a qualification in performance coaching and a track record of managing people to achieve their potential.Specialities include:• FCA conduct regulatory principles and approach, including Skilled Person reviews• Public speaking and presenting• Designing and delivering training • People management – extensive line management experience and a diploma in performance coaching• Regulatory Conduct of Business (COBS) rules• Credit unions – regulatory CREDS rules, legislative requirements, ethos, culture and operational practices• Cert CII, DipPFS – technical knowledge of wide range of life, pensions and investment products including employer-sponsored benefits
