As General Counsel for the Columbus Blue Jackets, I have provided a wide range of legal services for the National Hockey League franchise since 2012, including corporate contracts (sponsorship, premium seating, food & beverage, merchandise, ticketing, sports betting, air charter, privacy, data, licensing, vendor, SaaS, in-arena WiFi/DAS, etc.), immigration, workers' compensation, employment contracts, minor league affiliation, sweepstakes and promotions, intellectual property registration and enforcement, premise incidents and liability, and litigation.Beyond my day-to-day responsibilities, whenever possible, I share my passion of the intersection between sport, law, diversity, gender, and LGBTQ issues through community service, speaking engagements, and writing. I welcome opportunities to continue to share my perspective and expertise on these subjects, and to collaborate, listen, and learn from others eager to improve our communities.In January 2023, I joined the Board of Directors of You Can Play, a multi-national non-profit working to ensure the safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches and fans. Since August 2019, I have served on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the Sports Lawyers Association.From 2015-2018, I served on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland, a council encompassing 30 counties and serving ~22,000 girl members, and in 2018, I was awarded the "President's Plaque" in recognition of distinguished service to the Council. (I remain in service to the Council by volunteering for the Finance and Philanthropy Committees.) I am also co-founder and a former board member of the Family Pride Network, a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 to connect, support, and educate LGBTQ families and prospective parents in central Ohio.While a law student at the Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law, I served as President of the Sports & Entertainment Law Association and on the Board of OutLaws; published a blog titled “Wide Rights,” providing information and commentary on gay rights and the sports industry; and volunteered at Kaleidoscope Youth Center, an after-school drop-in center for LGBTQ youth.
