Spun off from Eagle Technology The No1 IT Group was founded by Pete as a groundbreaking NZ software distributor, ICT services provider and consultancy. No1 delivered award winning technical support from an early contact centre. Having grown profitably to 56 staff, The Number One IT Group contributed strongly to the blossoming of the PC market in NZ. Apart from the consulting (GSI) practice, the business was sold. The GSI Practice continues to deliver governance, strategic and ICT advice as well as programme/project and other management services.

The Selwyn Foundation is one of the largest and most successful charitable providers of care to the elderly in New Zealand. Selwyn has more than 600 staff and is a leader in aged care technology. It is experienced in social housing; retirement village accommodation, resthome, hospital and dementia care services across the upper North Island. Selwyn is a leader in developing new care models has introduced experimental aged care robots. Pete chairs the Technology and Innovation board committee and provides expertise in not for profit and ICT governance. Current project include replacement of core systems, introduction of new medical systems and development of new web presence solutions.

Pete launched the NZ chapters of The Coalface Community. The Coalface Community’s mission was to promote continuous improvement in the use and deployment of information technology by providing a forum where ICT leaders (CIOs) learn from the practical experiences of their peers in other companies. Pete has published several research papers for Australian and NZ Coalface members addressing CIO issues. Part of Pete’s role included guiding CIOs through the shift from a historic primarily operational role to a greater focus on customers, and strategic and vendor management leadership. Across Australia and NZ The Coalface Community had more than 100 CIO level members.

The objective of the Liz Dengate Thrush Foundation is to award funding grants for use in practical educational advancement of individuals in Internet entrepreneurship. The Trustees will ensure the Foundation evolves in line with Liz’s philosophies and enthusiasm for Internet technologies.

IDC is one of the world’s largest ICT research organizations. Pete led the IDC NZ end user practice to deliver advice and services to CIOs of leading NZ organisations. Pete developed components of IDC's range of research offerings into a set of products that deliver useful knowledge and fact based insights to support sound decisions. Further, Pete implemented research programmes, and provided access to IDC Industry Insights. Facilitated, chaired and presented at ICT industry events in NZ, Australia and Singapore, including an NZTE Health industry event in Singapore. Prepared research papers for publication.

Elected by members for a 2 year termThe President of InternetNZ is the Chair of the Board of Directors. In 2008, Pete re-aligned InternetNZ to ensure that its structure is consistent with its role. This involved executing a programme coordinating 4 boards, and launching a shared services unit. Pete also maintained and grew the international relationships he had developed as CEO to ensure that InternetNZ is seen as a significant contributor to Internet governance.

Pete managed the development of this maturing not for profit organisation, and created an operation and team which grew and became more effective in managing the .nz domain, delivering strong advocacy to ensure the Internet remains open and uncapturable, while maintaining effective international relationships with the global Internet community. As part of the international component, Pete set up the secretariat for APTLD (Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association). Pete also filled the CIO role while the organization matured to point where each unit could manage and support its own ICT needs. Even with significant growth and many new activities, Pete managed within the allocated budget.

Working with ICT Vendors and Health Sector Organisations to develop and encourage the use of a multi-vendor virtual network which will support and promote effective next generation ICT solutions throughout the NZ Health Sector

Retained by the Ministry of Economic Development Pete ensured that the NZ Digital Strategy was launched, delivered well and understood by New Zealanders. His primary focus was to develop the project framework and relationships needed to ensure that a healthy group of Urban Fibre Networks, including the KAREN academic and research network, was initiated, and linked with many community Partnership projects. These tasks were on target and delivering at the end of his 18-month assignment. The budget for the Programme was $24,000,000

Pete provided Interim leadership to oversee a complete restructure of the ICT operation and implementation of major system changes, including outsourcing much of the operational capacity. Led the convergence of systems from the acquisition of new subsidiaries. Oversaw the implementation of ITIL based processes. Managed international operations.

Elected as President of NZs main IT industry association for a two year term, followed by two years on the board as Immediate past President. ETG was also a successful software developer. Our project management division delivered specialised project management software (Trackstar) and supported projects in NZ, Chile and Australia .In 1983 Trevor & Coralie Eagle and Peter started the Number One Software Company.
