I work in the Data Warehousing team writing ETL scripts in Oracle PL/SQL and SQL Server Management Studio combined with UNIX, and c#.NET. I create schemas, classes and objects in the Business Objects IDT and UDT, set up security restrictions, groups and accounts. I create BI Dashboards (formerly Xcelsius) and Lumira dashboards and contribute to the design and development of our in house reporting application as well as SQL scripts that aggregate data for these types of display. I have developed a c# executable that pulls data from the NI Emergency Department systems, crunches it through a series of algorithms that validate the figures and check the status of each of the EDs, and generates and FTPs an XML file to the NIDirect CMS where it is displayed publically as the current expected waiting time for each ED.We are hoping that people will use this to travel to the less busy EDs and Minor Injuries Units and relieve some of the pressure on the busier EDs. Developed a Web based dashboard in c#, javascript and HTML displaying figures and charts in real time that are used by the NI Ambulance service and the Health Board to analyse the picture of the emergency departments on the ground and the current status of ambluances as they are called out and become available again. They can then monitor building pressures and redirect ambulances to aviod bottlenecks. Also to inform the users to aid in the alloction of hospital beds. This has become critical to the users. I also developed a Windows livetile notification that alerts managers when certain thresholds are breached.

Developed forms in Delphi to capture the rolling care packages of district nurses. I developed a way of displaying these in an ASCII timetable (due to the graphical limitations of the PARIS system – necessity is the mother of invention!) that could be used by each to see how their care plans were changing. Once the forms were being used I developed a suite of Crystal Reports to calculate, aggregate, group and display the financial data that was captured by these timetables. I also took part in user groups in order to draw up the requirements and trained up the users in the use of the system.

Having started as a junior developer in 2003 I became the lead developer in a small team who travelled onsite to Chicago to analyse the system that captured the organisation's server metrics in order to design and develop Xcelsius dashboards and BO Universes that could be used to monitor server usage, capture patterns of behaviour and provide alerts before incidents could occur. As part of an iterative development methodology I met weekly with our clients, discussed additional functionality, drew up requirements and technical specs, provided estimates, programmed ETL procedures using Perl and SQL, programmed web front ends using c# HTML and javascript and with my assistants developed Business Objects Universes and interactive Xcelsius dashboards. Left to apply skills to more civic type of work.
