As a Computer Science student, I spent a year working for ICL Fujitsu, programming in COBOL for Series 39 VME mainframes and in "C" for DRS 6000 SPARC-based servers.I was a member of the ICL Data Dictionary System (DDS) team. DDS was an early attempt to build a comprehensive repository of what we might now call metadata. Customers included retailers and the military. Not the Post Office, though. That wasn't me.
