Peter M. Cooke founded Microscopy Instruction, Consultation & Analysis (MICA) in 1999. The company specializes in customized, on-site microscopy training, laboratory consultation, and select sample analysis. In his nearly 30 year career, Peter has garnered an international reputation as a microscopy expert in asbestos identification, and has been recognized for his pedagogical expertise. Peter has served as a technical assessor for NVLAP, auditing more than 375+ NVLAP-accredited laboratories since 1988. He also serves as a reference laboratory for the AIHA and Navy proficiency programs. Since January 2005, Peter has been on the adjunct faculty of the Hooke College of Applied Sciences (formerly College of Microscopy) in Westmont, Illinois, where he teaches a select number of courses in small particle identification.Specialties: Polarized light microscopy; Microscopy instruction;

The McCrone Research Institute (McRI) in Chicago is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching and research in light and electron microscopy, crystallography and ultramicroanalysis.I was invited to join the faculty of the McCrone Research Institute in Chicago, Illinois in 1985, and spent 14 years teaching microscopy to 7,000+ students at introductory through advanced levels. While there, I was also involved in several research projects, including the development of methodologies and protocols for Southeast Asia soil analysis in a government-funded MIA project.
