About Peter Meiszner

Thank you, Vancouver, for your support in the recent civic election.I am honoured to be your representative on Vancouver city council, advocating for residents and businesses across our wonderful city, and in my neighbourhood of downtown Vancouver, where I've lived for the past 15 years. I believe in a fiscally responsible, nimble and responsive civic government that puts citizens' ideas, dreams and concerns at the forefront—and is accountable and responsive to you, the electorate. --I am an award-winning communications professional with over 15 years of experience in journalism, digital and social media, spanning television news, higher education and urban development.I began my career in journalism at canada.com in 2004 – the online news portal of the CanWest Global family of newspapers – as a digital editor for Western Canada. Two years later, I was promoted to communications specialist within the head office of CanWest Global, which at the time was Canada’s largest integrated media company. I provided communications support to executives during the $2.3B acquisition of Alliance Atlantis, as well as managing the worldwide employee newsletter. In 2008, I returned to Vancouver to join the newsroom at Global BC, as the station’s first Online News Producer. I led the integration of our online offerings with television newscasts. I established the station's popular Facebook and Twitter channels, and grew social media accounts to a record-breaking 300,000 combined followers – more than any other Global News page in the network at the time.I worked with producers and assignment editors on daily basis, developed quality on-air and online content, and pitched story ideas that became water cooler conversation across B.C.In addition, I produced live-hits and reported on-air for Global News (Morning News, News Hour Final) and Global News BC1 about what’s trending online, as well as business and consumer topics. During my time at Global BC, I was the recipient of two RTNDA regional awards for digital news coverage (Yaletown Shootings and Mount Polley Mine Disaster). In January 2015, I joined the University of British Columbia (UBC), one of the top 20 public universities in the world, as Senior Digital Strategist in Media Relations. In April 2021, I moved to the Faculty of Arts as a Communications Manager, for a secondment role.I served on the Gastown Historic Area Planning Committee from 2019-2021, most recently as Vice-Chair.
