Sonogen was established to research, develop, and commercialize next-generation ultrasonic bone fracture healing technology. As Director of R&D, I am responsible for leading and coordinating the company’s research and development activities. This includes managing a diverse project team consisting of engineering and administrative staff, coordinating vendor activities, ensuring products meet medical device regulatory standards, managing communication among stakeholders, and developing resource allocation recommendations for the CEO.

Responsible for: administering and overseeing all financial matters in support of the Naval Academy’s academic program, including appropriated labor and material budgets at both the expense and investment levels, gift fund budget accounts, and, in close coordination with the Research Office, all reimbursable funding matters; developing and managing the civilian faculty hiring plan and processes; administering and overseeing all matters relating to military instructors, including regular rotational officers, recalled reservists, Graduate Education + Teaching (GE+T) officers, and all matters relating to Permanent Military Professor (PMP) officers; and serving as a key liaison with Navy leadership on matters relating to budgets and manpower.Teaching portfolio includes both introductory and advanced courses in: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Electrical Engineering and Ethics and Moral Reasoning.

Position is equivalent to the Dean of the Engineering College at a civilian university. Responsible for curriculum development, program certification and financial management of five academic departments, 135 civilian and military educators, a 50 person team of skilled tradesmen, and maintenance and operation of $35M in facilities and capital equipment. The centerpiece of my portfolio was the development, delivery and lifecycle support of the Navy’s advanced fire control sensor network - Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC). This ACAT-1D program, which included foreign military sales, encompassed a total expenditure for research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) of more than $365M. My program portfolio also included shipboard tactical displays and processors as well as shipboard electronic navigation systems.

During a period of great organizational consolidation in the Navy, I was responsible for combining and reorganizing two formerly stand-alone program offices: The AEGIS Combat System program and the Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS) Mark-II program. Extensive, hands-on leadership was required to consolidate staffs, facilities and budgets, as well as communicate the vision and mission of the new organization to policy makers, resource sponsors, contractor teams, government staffs and customers.

Responsible for the development and testing of the Navy’s next generation precision tracking and fire control radar, the AN/SPY-3, Multi-Function Radar (MFR). I led a diverse, nation-wide team of 120 scientists, engineers, logisticians and financial specialists.
