Natural product biosynthesis requires multiple enzymatic steps to complete. To facilitate this, the responsible enzymes are associated in quartenary structures known as metabolons. We studied the biosynthesis of the natural product dhurrin which requires the action of several membrane bound enzymes. To study the interactions between these enzymes we employed nanodisc technology in attempts to reconstitute the metabolon and study the interactions using various biophysical methods.

Ionotropic glutamate receptos are an important class of neuroreceptors found primarily in synapses in the central nervous system. Their important role in neurotransmission has made them a potential drug target. To study the interactions between the receptors and ligands and facilitate structure-based drug design, several subtypes of the ionotropic glutamate receptors were crystallized in complex with various ligands.
