Associate Test Engineer
Implementation of customers' product testing requirements and maintenance of test fixtures. Documenting designs and procedures for maintenance and training purposes. Training operations staff in proper use of test equipment. Overseeing testing to ensure quality. ● At the request of a customer, I designed, built, and implemented in the production process a new test fixture in two weeks for a product which was previously not tested at our facility. This test fixture was controlled by a VB.NET program on a PC. ● When a customer brought in several failed assemblies, I used electrical test results and an X-Ray camera to identify and confirm a hidden manufacturing defect as the root cause of failure, with the customer present. I introduced changes to our production processes to prevent this defect in the future. Even though the defect was our fault, the customer left satisfied because of my timely and accurate diagnosis of the problem. ● In response to a new customer's test requirements, I created a system of software and hardware to power cycle a batch of electronic assemblies undergoing hot and cold ESS (Environmental Stress Screen) testing. The software collected data from thermocouples in order to determine when to apply power to the assemblies. My system fulfilled their ESS testing requirements thus helping us to secure this new business.
Test Technician
Testing electronic assemblies and training new testing staff on various test procedures. Troubleshooting and repair of failures.
Electrical Engineer Intern
Actual dates: Summer 2009 and January 2010 - July 2010.Testing prototype and production product samples of network connectors to ensure compliance with company and agency specs. Maintenance and development of automated test software using Excel VBA. Documenting test procedures and results. ● I implemented PLC control of a test fixture to improve throughput and accuracy. Using a DirectLogic PLC I created a ladder logic program to integrate operation of the fixture's pneumatic motion, a two hand touch safety sensor, the network analyzer which performed the actual test, and a user interface with indicator lights and a two line text display to show the status and results of the test. I designed a new enclosure for this test fixture in SolidWorks and had it fabricated by our shop staff using my drawings. ● I completed a software re-design of our Excel VBA testing software to improve usability of the software user interface. Code readability was enhanced and allowances were made for future feature expansion. My software also improved the formatting of the auto-generated Excel test reports.
Teaching Assistant
Teach recitation sessions weekly for EE 215 (Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering), grade exams, and hold office hours to assist students one-on-one with homework problems.
Engineering Intern
Actual dates: Summers 2007 and 2008. Assisting engineers with troubleshooting of field failures, soldering surface-mount components on prototypes to investigate the results of design changes. Testing prototype devices in hot and cold environmental chambers, verifying the safety of Lithium-Ion battery protection circuitry, writing test reports, and designing test fixtures and circuits.● I converted a manually operated vacuum pump and bell jar test fixture to automatic control. I implemented control software built in LabVIEW to collect data from a vacuum sensor and modulate the vacuum. The software could simulate unpressurized cargo aircraft flights with options for users to input climb rate in units of ft/min (this was previously impossible to simulate with purely manual control), cruise altitude and time, and descent rate. This software improved test accuracy and greatly reduced the time and effort required of the test technicians.
Assistant System Administrator
Linux server administration and web development. Experience in RedHat Linux, HTML, PHP, Perl, and MySQL.
Engineering Intern
Two summer internships, the summer of 2005 and the summer of 2006. AutoCAD drafting, computer support, engineering calculations, report writing.
Grounds Associate
As a grounds associate it was my responsibility to clean up trash and maintain the cleanliness of park restrooms. In addition, I was able to interact with guests as I walked around in order to assist them with directions and advice about restaurants or rides.
