I contribute significant value to businesses by overcoming complex barriers to development and growth. I started out as a Corporate Lawyer with Allen & Overy, where I learned from some of the sharpest minds in the legal and business worlds. I then gained Corporate Finance experience with a FTSE 100 Plc, executing 22 acquisitions in 1 year which honed my corporate transaction skills and my capacity for managing multiple, complex priorities. I am really proud of the businesses that I’ve been involved with, and have led companies through quantum change by using my commercial, financial and relationship skills. I’m particularly drawn to companies that are ‘real’, have tangible purpose and positive impact on lives and livelihoods, as well as high quality people and a sound underlying proposition. Relationships are the key factor in being able to leverage my technical skills and knowledge; I believe in mutually beneficial business decisions, am straightforward and uncompromising in matters of integrity. I’m practical and hard-wired to find solutions – often ones that are not immediately apparent – so I need thinking time that will find me seeking out quiet spaces to mull over issues, distil complexity and route a way forward. I’ve co-founded companies including Ireland’s leading private integrated waste management business, a listed European agri-business and an FCA regulated UK life insurer, giving me exposure to varied sectors, geographies, business ownership models and stakeholders. I’ve served as Non-Executive Director with a fully listed Financial Services Plc and an AIM listed business, which involved deep understanding of Board governance, practice and dynamics. I have also had membership of Audit & Risk, Finance & Remuneration Committees and Chaired REMCO. I was recently appointed to the Board of ViroCell Biologics Limited, a new business that enables gene therapies to progress quickly from laboratory to clinic - one of the fastest growing areas of medicine.
