Profile bio

About Brian Peters

I like to think outside the box, challenge common knowledge, and approach things differently. Implementing creative solutions comes naturally to me and I enjoy the process. ---- Software QA Engineering -----I have worked as a Software QA Engineer for the past 7 years at Apple in Cupertino. I joined a small group of elite QA engineers working on all facets Apple Pay. The team was one of the most talented QA groups in the entire company. We became known for finding the most bugs and shipping perfect products/features. We launched products used by millions of users with zero launch issues.- Test PlanningI deep dive into the engineering of each project I test to fully understand where I can break it. Positive/Negative test cases are just the beginning of a test plan, the real fun begins when you get creative. The nastiest bugs that can bring a project to its knees are usually found when testing ad-hoc outside of your traditional test plan. These sorts of bugs can only be found when you have a deep understanding of the software and then create theories on how you can break it.- Test Execution / Filing bugsStarting testing on a new project is always fun because you get to show the engineers things they didn't think of. Often times project managers and engineers will think their project is ready to ship but then the QA team comes along and finds the truth :) Finding all of the "show stopping" bugs before launch day is absolutely crucial. When filing bugs it's important to have a full understanding of the software so you can quickly identify the possible root cause and file more intelligent bugs. Filing a bug with "I got an error" is unacceptable... you should be able to track down and theorize where the bug is originating from. - Engineering Project ManagementAt Apple I was a "Directly Responsible Individual" (QA Lead) for multiple projects. This role included not only test planning and execution but also working with internal and external partners to align the project. I would run bug reviews with all parties and walk through each issue to outline the severity. I pressed partners for better ETA's on their fixes and kept them accountable. I sent reports out to higher management to keep everyone in line with the projects progress and launch risks. - Test AutomationI started out on the Automation team at Apple writing automated testing scripts in Javascript. I was the top automation script contributor and wrote the majority of code for our new projects. I slowly transitioned into a more advanced role on the automation framework side (Python).

Listed skills include Web Development, Javascript, Php, Mysql, and 13 others.
